I picked up a Tikka M595 chambered in 223 Remington. The rifle came with a set of steel rings which attach to the grooves on the receiver. I assume these are factory rings. They do not have a lug on the bottom to engage the slot on top of the receiver. They do have a spring on the bottom which applies some pressure in the opposite direction as you tighten the receiver screw. Will these rings hold tight?
I'll ask, if they are factory rings why do you think they would be inadequate? MB

Are you a gunwriter?
barm, I'm not a gunwriter but have been shooting Tikkas for over 20 yrs. If you can post a pic I may be able to help.

barm, I have personally used the old, original Sako mounts, optilocks, and the rings that came with the T3's, but I've never seen rings like that on any Tikka. Every Tikka ring I've seen had a recoil lug, and several of the new "made for Tikka" rings have a lug (Sportsmatch), and many aftermarket do not (Millett, Leupy, etc).

I'm not saying those won't work, but I do not think they are Tikka/Sako. Hope that helps some anyway.

Back in the late 90's.....in my Tikka 595 buying days

Don't ever remember getting rings with the rifle ?

I do believe they made the Optilocks to fit Tikka's...but were pricey back then

The current T3x & T3's supplied rings never made it on any Tikka I owned

OP...if these rings fit the rail.....use 'em...not much recoil to worry about on the 223

I remember my first Tikka 595.....ordered a blue/syn 7-08 from my FFL....$450 ish

Opened the box upon arrival....S/N matched box & rifle.....but....

they sent a SS/syn 7-08 instead......even Tikka can make a boo boo......

OP.....congrats on the 595......good luck now with finding a spare metal magazine....$$$$$

OP

as mentioned

those rings do not look like Sako....

Thanks. I did find a spare mag on Ebay. They are polymer though. The trigger guard is polymer too with metal inserts in the screw holes.

hmmmmmm

I remember my 595 mags as metal......

don't be scared of poly mags......

Nope 595 magazines were always polymer. The 695 {long action} mags were metal with a polymer base. I had both purchased new in 1999. Still have the 595 with the original polymer mag and two spares.

When I bought my 695 7mag in 1998 it came with OptiLocks. Maybe it was a special promotion or something. I had $475 total in that rig. Still use it as is today.

at $475

we all should have bought a truck load of them fine Finnish rifles
Looks like a cheap copy of the Hillver mounts made in Australia, these were originally machined steel, but I believe they were later made of sintered steel overseas
And no I am not a gunwriter
Tikka did make a mount that was all steel, had a big slot cut up the side to facilitate clamping, wink see if I still have a picture
Yes ,those are original Tikka rings and they were made in Australia. They did not come with the rifle and at the time were over $100.00 for a pair and worked as they should.
