i can`t seem to find on the computer the date/year my new to me 256 Newton was made serial # is 1001. thank you,Pete53

Curious so I did some googling and found this listing for serial number 1006 saying it was made between 1924 and 1926

Pictured is the 2nd Model Newton, not the Buffalo Newton. This one has the reversed triggers and the crooked bolt. The 1st Model Newton has the regular looking double set trigger and a straight bolt. Could also have this serial#. Buffalo Newtons are about 1918-19

thanks for both comments and it is the second model reversed trigger and crooked bolt model. the rifle i purchased also has stamped on it Buffalo Newton Rifle Co.,made in the U.S.A.,New Haven Conn. ,256 Newton, on the bolt S#1001, i have not taken rifle apart yet thank you ,Pete53
