So, attempting to get a couple of new rifles (both in 6.5-300) to shoot, I was limited to Wby ammo in that caliber—or so I thought. Getting pretty tight groups with the 127gr LRXs and the 140gr ABs. But a few are off, and I am noticing what I have noticed for years with Wby factory-loaded ammo: The extreme spread on the Wby-loaded groups shot over my chrono often are larger than for other manufacturers that I have come to prefer.

Particularly, in rifle ammo, I have noticed that Nosler and CorBon factory loaded ammo consistently have produced small extreme spreads.

For example, here are some recent examples from Nosler out of my 20” .308:

NOSLER Trophy Grade 168gr AB L.R.
Chrono Results: 2,613 fps, 2,615 fps, 2,616 fps, 2,609 fps, 2,612 fps = 2,613 fps avg.

NOSLER 165gr Trophy Grade AB
Chrono Results: 2,609 fps, 2,633 fps, 2,599 fps, 2,590 fps, 2,620 fps = 2,610 fps avg

Similarly, my CorBon-loaded 225gr TTSXs always come out of my .340 Wby really close to the 3,140 fps average.

I just ordered some Hendershot’s 127gr LRX loadings for the 6.5-300.

Does anyone have any experience with their factory ammo?

More generally, do some manufactures just have better/worse QC in their loading process?

How much difference can something like a 70-fps difference change the accuracy of a group?

Many thanks in advance for any answers.
I understand that the 6.5 WB is difficult to load for. If money isn't an object I've heard really good things about Superior Ammuntion. If they have to, they will custom make the load to your rifle. Of course you will have to send the rifle in to them.

Data point of one - Hendershots ammo in a 338-06 from 6-8 years ago. Bullet was a Nosler Partition, or similar.

I didn't chrono any of it, but it was hitting MOA or better - and it was holding same POI as the Nosler Custom shop ammo I had to compare it to.

I'm local enough to drive by the shop once in a while - the few hunters I know that have shot their ammo have been happy with it.

Thanks Lee and AH64 for the comments.
I hit their shop occasionally, had no idea they made ammo.
Cool shop, lotta higher end type stuff.
Old fashioned store, not very big.
Just sitting there on the main drag

I got the Hendershot's ammo today. I posted a question about the appearance that Wby is modifying Barnes's bullets before loading them: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...e-6-5-300-weatherby-for-elk#Post15843479

Any thoughts on that would be appreciated.
