Went to LGS looking for H8133 or R33 and no joy in mudville. The local guru guy suggested Ram Shot LRT which they had. It is in the real slow burn rate category but for the 257 Weatherby with heavy bullets the velocities listed were the same as Magnum but with a lot more powder used to get there. I bet it will shine on even larger cases where Magnum fills the case, LRT is denser by quite a bit. Anyone work with this powder and what were your experiences?

Boy I thought at least someone would have used this. It is really close to Retumbo but has smaller spheres so meters and fills well. It seems to have some of the same uses as US869, H870 & AA8700 which is good as I am just about out of those and what I have is marked $8 per lb. so you know that has got to be pretty old stuff. I will try it out in the Weatherby and possibly 270 wsm and 7RM. Might be too slow for the 300 unless I am going up to 230 grain bullets.

They sent me a sample maybe a year ago, but already had my editorial schedule worked for a year, and so far it hasn't fit in with any of my assignments--mostly because it's so slow-burning, it's only suitable for a few cartridges.

Yes it won't have very broad applications but where it works I think it will excel. I think Ramshot should put you on the payroll as I believe in your results more than I do the lab testing. I am thinking of going back to the LGS and buying all they have, I think it could excel with the 128-130s in the 257 Weatherby, and if not might be at least be passable in the 270-300 magnums. Absolute worst case my tomato plants will like it.

Just a suggestion, would love to see an article on LVT and I would not call you a wuss if you used a shoulder pad for the Lapua and above calibers.

I tried it in my 264 win mag with 156 Bergers.. I got good velocity but only so so accuracy.. 8133 is where I found my load...

Is this a new powder? I don’t think I’ve seen it on shelves before. Happy Trails

Nosler has some data using this powder. I've seen it for the .264 Win Mag (140-142 gr), 6.5 Nolser (130 & 140 gr), 7 STW and 7 RUM. In the .264 Win, it duplicates US-869 performance.

It was announced in 2018, but this is the first time I have seen it on the shelf. But I don't frequent gun stores very often anymore. They are a 20-50 miles drive for me.

I just checked Ramshot's data for LRT, to see where it might work in my rifles, because there wasn't nearly as much data as when it appeared.

It turns out the only two real possibles are my .257 Weatherby Magnum New Ultra Light Arms with 115-120 grain bullets, and my custom Remington 700 6.5 PRC, built by Charlie Sisk, with bullets weighing about 140 on up. Will try to get that done sometime soon, while working on other handloading assignments. It will be interesting to see how LRT performs compared to the powders both rifles already prefer, H1000 in the .257 Wby. and IMR8133 in the 6.5.
