The more I look, the more confused I get. When the 350 Legend came out I saw info that said it was a .355 bore diameter. Now I'm seeing info, and they are saying it's .357 bore diameter. The more I try to find out about this the more confused I get. Help me please. Straighten me out. Can I reload .357 bullets or should I load .355/9mm bullets in the 350? Here in Ohio the law states .357 or larger for deer. Then I heard since the 350 is a .355 they had to make an exception for it to be legal in Ohio. So what gives? Any info on the matter will be most earnestly appreciated. Thanks.

It is .355. You might be able to load .357. Depends on the gun. The common issue with .357 bullets was it slightly overstretched the case mouth. In some guns rounds would not chamber. The work around that has worked well is simply running .357 bullets through a 9mm bullet sizer. Same can be done with .358 bullets. I was intrigued by the 350 legend. But the reloading difficulties killed it for me. Thought I could simply resize some of my hoard of 223 and use my mountain of 150 grain .358 bullets I got. But the cases are different and resizing the bullets is more work than I want to do. As for Ohio can't help you there.

It is .355, and it is absolutely legal in Ohio. The ODNR published a statement some time back stating so, but at the moment I cannot find it. Call them to get an up to date answer. I bought one for my son to use in Ohio, it works very well!

The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) accepted the Winchester .350 Legend as a new cartridge and chamber standard in early 2019, but there is still some confusion. Here’s a direct link to the .350 Legend and technical specs and drawings, courtesy of SAAMI.

The cartridge uses a modified, .223 Rem. shell case with a 1.71-inch length and a bullet diameter of .357 inch.

Here's the definition, right out of the NRA Firearms Sourcebook. It is “...the minor interior diameter of a barrel that is the diameter of a circle formed by the tops of the lands.” That is the bore diameter, but groove diameter is “...the diameter of a circle circumscribed by the bottom of the grooves...”

Looks like Winchester realized they screwed up with the .355 bullets and changed to the .357.

Stick with the 450 Bushmaster and the problems disappear.

Things appear to have changed since I did my research. If they truly did change I wonder if there are early chambered guns that might have issues now. Read a few different accounts of reloaders having chambering issues when using .357 bullets.

Whatever the specs say, people have pulled and measured the bullets in the factory loads and found they are 0.355".

Totally legal for deer hunting in Ohio. I and several of my friends have used it with much success. 150 grain bullet and 2150-2300fps and 180 grain bullet at 1950-2100fps will kill any deer that ever took a breath out to 150-200yds. Regardless of whether it’s .355 or .357. JMHO

What do you know....somebody actually listened to consumers and made the bullet diameter .357 like it should have been all along.

Hopefully "2500HD' will see this thread, he had a 350 legend modified by his gunsmith to load .357 bullets. As I vaguely recall most of the modification was in the throat of the rifle.

All of the Hornady bullets for it are .355
