Just curious about accuracy comparison on the Winchester 6.5 Creedmoor 140 gr. ballistic silvertip and the 142 gr. expedition long range. Their bullet designs and ballistic stats are quite comparable. My curiosity question is, If you sight in with one type, say 0 at 100 yards, Do you think if you then shot the other type, would it hit about the same? In other words, could you sight in with one or the other and be confident with accuracy when shooting the other.

All I tested was the 142 gr. Win Expedition factory fodder and my barrel did not like it. Best 5 round group was 1.5" and it went downhill from there.

Short answer - nope.
It’s pure coincidence if they hit same POI at 100 yds.
Some guns/barrels are close, others can be as much as 3-4” away.

There's only one way to find out.

I did talk to a Winchester tech advisor, and he said yes there should be relatively close to POI. Now I am not looking for same hole accuracy, at 100 yards that would be ridiculous to expect even with same bullets. All I was curious about was sighting in with one or the other, and then using one or the other for deer hunting, and having confidence that close enough POI would be achieved. Really, at a 100 yards, what's the big deal if one is inch or two off from the other. My original question relates to hunting situations, not bench rest target shooting.

friends could not find 6.5 Creedmoor ammo last fall 2020 , so i loaded a bunch for the guys and now they don`t want factory ammo anymore . i hope i didn`t open up a can of worms ???

I'll mention that I've noticed over the past 10 years or so that full length bedded rifles seem to vary less in POI between different ammo than free floated barrels. I've seen it with NULA's, Forbes, Fieldcrafts, and several that I've full length bedded. With full length bedded rifles different loads and bullets are usually very close in POI at 100 yards. Free floated barrels seem to change much more.

There was a time when full length bedding appeared to be the way to get best accuracy from our rifles. Two of mine, a 22-250 model 700 Rem and a 257 Robt AI, are the most accurate rifles I have owned. Is not full length bedding not still a good way to get great accuracy.

Yup. FWIW I sighted-in my new (last year) TC Compass 6.5 with Federal Nontypical Whitetail 140's, got 3/4" groups, then later bought several boxes of Sellier & Bellot 140 gr FMJ's for cheaper range work and got the same grouping within 1" of the Federals. Best $250 dollar rifle I've ever owned. I love to read the reloading threads, but with consistent groups of 3/4" or less, I just have no incentive to go there.
