Anyone sent one of these for a rebore? I have a 30-06 I am thinking of sending off. What was the largest caliber you could bore that barrel out to?

I think Jess likes to have at least .100" inch of barrel wall thickness after the rebore. So, for .358 caliber you would want the muzzle at least .558, and so forth. IOW, .your muzzle diameter minus .200" is likely your answer. They are good about calling back if you leave a message though - just ask.

Weird that the 358 is fairly sought after and command higher coin but the actual production numbers are quite low. Seems like Ruger should churn out some more 35 cal rifles when they do a run. Even some lefty ones. Im kinda sick of the general unavailibity of Ruger rifles and limited calibers

Look at it another way - your question would be a quick answer for Jes plus you’d get to talk to him and get an idea of what other things might be on his mind to create a successful outcome & maybe create a connection so when your rifle shows up he remembers your convo

With an '06 length action, I'd say 338-06 or 35 Whelen.

He did a Pre-64 M-70 Fwt .243 that was shot out. Turned it into a .358 Win. As posted before, it was a bit rough looking thru the Hawkeye, fouled easily. But, the hole was perfectly drilled, very uniform, no tight spots,. After shooting it a while, cleaning after shooting, then with DBC treatment, it's settled down and is a decent shooter. And, fouling isn't a problem. It's a 12 twist, which I would recommend, but seems to prefer lighter bullets. It'll shoot .75" to 1 1/2" groups at a hundred. MOA not a problem with bullets it likes. For the price, it's a good deal, IMO.

It won't shoot with a new Shilen, but it doesn't cost $600 installed. And I wanted to keep the looks of the Pre-64 Fwt., which I did. He stamps the new round designation on the bottom of the barrel, doesn't want to mess up the looks of the factory barrel. Someone shooting a .243 round in mine will get a surprise when he ejects the empty. Doubt that bullet reaches the target.

The Fwt barrel isn't that fat, but there was enough steel to accommodate the .358" bore.

I purchased my 358Win Ruger American 20" "Ranch Rifle" about 18 mo. ago from Grice's. Price was $395. I guess they're going for more than that on GB now? Interestingly, in my limited work w/ it, using the Barnes 180 TTSX (I think this will be my preferred go-to bullet), Hornady case, Fed210, w/ 43.5-45.0gr. H4198 (fastest powder in the old Barnes Manual w/ the old 180gr X bullet) all where touching @ 100yd! Sub-MOA for 4 shots! Velocity was from 2698 to 2736fps. I just might stop development and just use this load! Get the Limbsaver Air-tech recoil pad, too. -Mark
