i didn't see too much on 6.8 SPC wildcats. I'm interested in the 220 Thunderbolt someone mentioned a few years ago. Any one have more info on this? thanx, nate

Necked to 22? From that one I think there were better options IIRC. ANd it was also a duplication. Not that most wildcats arent

The 6.8-06 is a REAL good one!

Remington dropped it from it's chambered rifles they offer in 2007. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I just checked out the 6.8 SPC and it looks like an underpowered 270 Win to me. Is it's only advantage that it kicks less than a 243? I don't get it!

All the calibers have likely been done years ago. The 6.8 is nothing more then a 30 Rem necked down to .277.

6.8 SPC is something the Special Forces came up with to give M-16 recivers a little bit more in house to house fighting. The 6.8 - 06 has been one of the best since 1925. Its called the 270 Winchester. I think a 260 or 6.5 x 55 would better suit your needs.

There is another forum that has one section devoted to their 6.5 SPC Improved. It's a dragon slayer!!!Has been shot in 1000yd comp. Tried to commuicate with them on the site but was pretty much ignored. I didn't have one and wasn't in their circle.Rick.

I've got the 6mm version, its doing well in competition too.

It fits a niche, specifically in the AR15 platform. I use mine for deer a lot with 85 tsx and works great.

I kinda like mine just the way it is and will probably twist another.27 cal tube on it when the time comes.
Don't particularly care that 6.8 bolt gun owners get no respect as a rifle you can shoot with no hearing protection and only needs 8 clicks up on a m3 turret to get out to 350 yds. has a lot going for it.
This rounds main limitation to me is that there isn't really a suitable all round powder developed for it as of yet. H322 isn't going to be the final answer but untill that that day comes I can understand why it's getting necked down a size or two and watch on with interest.
Good luck, Steve.

Dang Steve, the 6.8 is subsonic? Never realized it was that quiet and no ear protection required or needed to have no damage. Heck I still wear it with 22s..

Your concern is heartwarming.
No, the 6.8 isn't subsonic as you already know since you shoot a variant yourself.
Do I wear hearing protection when I'm shooting my AR?
Do I wear when I'm shooting my Browning Boss in .300?
As a matter of fact, Yes.

The range I shoot at goes out to 900 yards when they get around to mowing it in a rural setting with no covered structures and once again my little 6.8 in these conditions doesn't require Ears on.
I've been a collector and shooter for close to 30 years and have hunted Australia and North America.
Save the sarcasm for someone else.

Sorry, guess Im not that smart, I even put in plugs before shooting a deer if allowed the time. Just been on ranges to much in my life and realized when I was about 25, that most everyone on the ranges past 40ish, was very hard on hearing, and that most past 50ish had to wear "hearing aid muffs"

Plug up! its worth the hassle

I've been shooting and collecting guns for over 55 years and I did not use hearing protection until the late 70's. In the late 60'sand early 70's, I shot NRA pistol matches and aimed to shoot 1,000 round per week (practice and competition). I also shot a lot of high power rifle. I never used hearing protection. My hearing is now damaged and I have constant tintinus (ringing in the ears).

It's too late but I now use both ear plugs and ear muffs to save what's left.

Nate,

the 6/6.8 is called the 6mmWOA (white oak armament), look for it under that name for dies.

The 6.8 SPC is a wildcat, based off the .30 Remington.
Posted By: Balvarik Re: 6.8 wildcats - 01/22/07
"Was" a wildcat!
It lost it's bastard status when Remington legitimized it!

yeah, now it is a redheaded step child <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

if i may ask, why not the grendel necked down to 6mm ala ppc? seems brass dies and everything assoc. with it (accuracy also) would be a no brainer....
