With more and more pressure coming down the pike regarding the use of lead-free bullets for hunting or outright ban on lead projects, do you think this would kill off the 22lr? Perhaps "kill off "is too strong a term, but I can see the lead-free bullet requirement impact the 22lr and other rimfires more negatively than the other cartridges. Your thoughts?
Nah. They will just cost more

Not a chance - the number of 22 LR produced each year is in the billions, not to mention how many 22 rifles there are.

drover
Not in my lifetime.
My son will inherit quite a stash.
Now, if the liberals get their way and succeed in outright banning all lead bullets/ammo and not just for hunting......which I think is their true agenda, then each of us to decide whether we want to become criminals by shooting our lead 22lr ammo. I'm sure the liberals will include hefty fines and jail time to give their new law some teeth.

While it's true that billions of 22lr rounds are produced each year that is lead bullets, that may not translate equally when force to move to lead free bullets. Just a thought to consider

Yes, the cost of lead free 22lr is going to cost more and from I've research this ammo general isn't very accurate and the range is reduced due to bullets lighter weight. But here's the question, are you willing to pay Lapua Midas + prices for ammo that shoots like [bleep]?

I don't know maybe these anti-gun liberals combined with this covid shortages got me feeling cynical. I need to speed some time in front of my reloading bench this week!
Has anyone required lead free except the weirdos in California? I hope not. Besides we don't have any condors around here.

Yes. The Feds required lead free shot shells for Ducks & Goose hunting years ago.
Why would they fuss with any of that when there litterally a hop, skip, and jump away from being able to take the guns away? Defund the police, drive them to quiting which is happening nationwide, crime is now thru the roof, create shortages nationwide, and lastly take away fuel and food and the perfect storm to achieve there agenda is in place. Not all but Most of these things I have mentioned have already happened on an alarming scale. Enjoy this forum fellas because it to is going to disappear in a very short period of time

I was referring to rifle/pistol ammo.
There was some research released earlier this year relating to eagles and lead in their blood levels. It’s only a matter of time until state agencies are sued into banning lead projectiles for hunting. Plenty of time to prepare for that outcome.

Why? Because according to various liberal reports there are around 300 million firearms already owned. Without a national database to register all those firearms it's going to be difficult, not to mention expensive and slow, for the liberals to go door to door to confiscate everyone's firearms.

If liberals can restrict or make it so difficult and/or expensive to acquire ammunition, your firearm is nothing but a heavy paper weight. Liberals have learned after decades of fail frontal assaults on 2nd amendment, that they need to diversify their attacks and try back door tactics.

But I agree with you regarding today's environment is very scary.

Yep. Only a matter of time.

Same thing that came about on steel shot only requirements for Ducks and Geese. Some researchers found one or two ducks or geese that supposedly died of lead poisoning from some lead supposedly ingested from a lake or stream. 😡
So I can use lead weights for fishing that will fall into ponds but not shoot BBs that weight 1/100th as much. Typical retard government

Can you still buy lead fishing weights ???

Haven’t bought in in years. I’ve got a life times supply.
Yeah we still stock a lot of lead stuff. Haven't seen many that were otherwise
Wal-Mart in Pa does not sell lead sinkers anymore
Yeah, I forget when they started taking lead out of fishing terminal.
The ammo makers have been spectacular at answering consumer demand with new and innovative products. The cartridge will remain available with lead free alternatives at commensurate cost.

The real threat is impending regulations for shooting ranges.
We shouldn't put up with this crap
I published an article in RIFLE magazine maybe 3 years ago about non-lead bullets. My research included shooting quite a few animals with CCI's .17 HMR, .22 Long Rifle and .22 Magnum ammo. All worked fine--and they aren't all that expensive. If lead-free regulations become more common, the price will go down, because they can make larger manufacturing runs.

With a few minor touch-ups due to other advances in non-lead bullets, also appeared as a chapter in THE BIG BOOK OF GUN GACK III.

Just like lead shot, it is about lead toxicity in wildlife, especially in raptors, and raptors are federally protected. All of the caterwauling over lead shot beginning 35+ years ago, will again be heard if or when lead core bullets are prohibited. The USF&W service proposed in 2017 to prohibit lead core bullets on federal Wildlife Refuges, but nothing came of that this time around. One of the upper midwest states proposed a prohibition, I don't know what has come of it.

I don't like it, but there are legit reasons behind it.
I’d like to see what other guys using their flintlock muzzle loaders will do. I have a couple muzzle loaders a 54 and a 50. The 54 has only been shooting mono bullets (lead that is). The 50 is a newest model 700 which I bought to hunt elk in New Mexico - in that I’ve shot a few different types of bullets. sick
I doubt my 54 will ever see copper bullets though, at least in my hands.
If the federallies say I have to shoot something other than lead in the 54 they won’t have permission to step foot on my land in muzzle loader season.
They don't need your permission is the schitty part.
That's right.

Open fields.

Look it up if you don't know.

NYS banned lead sinkers some years ago.
Also, New York State just had a vote to ban lead ammo for hunting. The vote to ban lead didn't succeed, but the libs will keep trying and it'll eventually pass. It's just a matter of time.

Has more to do w raptors eating shot from carcasses.

Just let us shoot the raptors and make life easier on them so they don't ingest lead shot.

That is in the courts in South Dakota.

I'd be fine with shooting raptors. There are way too many around anyway and they're tough on small game/bird populations. I have a copy of the 1947 NYS hunting syllabus. In it the shooting of raptors is encouraged to help protect game populations. My grandfather said everybody shot raptors on sight when he was young. There were no eagles around here when I was young. Now they are all over and you see them all the time. Seen one, seen 'em all. I was fine without them when I was a kid and wouldn't miss them if they were gone again.
Yep. In the county I live in we started getting turkeys in the early to mid '80s.

We were at our max in the late '90s. Now it seems that we are back where we started.

Guess when the eagles started showing up? Not saying they are the whole reason but they aren't helping.

There is a nesting pair of eagles on my cousins place that I turkey hunt. I kill a tom about every other year and see very few turkeys but see the nesting pair and their offspring any time I am out there.

They get em a snack from the neighbors pond every day.

Never could understand why we have a scavenger as our national bird but it's fitting with what our nation is becoming.

Same with hawks and owls. There is a reason they used to keep them killed down.

Nobody kills the egg suckers anymore either. My dad has to bring the bird feeders in at night because of the coons. I say kill the bastards but he would rather bitch about them and have to put feeders out every morning and bring them in at night. Also wonders why he sees very few turkeys in the yard compared to 20 years ago.

Control 4 legged predators but not the 2 legged flying kind. Fuggin dumb.

Raptors won't be affected by .22s because .22s don't do this.

NY banned the sale of lead sinkers under 1/2 oz. but you can use them if you have them.

Garage sale tackle boxes are a good source.
