Not everybody will remember Remington VTR. They had the triangular barrel with the ported slot at the end. Didn't make him but into a three calibers or chamberings. I don't know if they didn't shoot very well or just not very popular . I haven't seen one for a long time not even one for sale used at the gunshow anywhere that got collectable? Work out really good and people keep them or what or maybe everybody strip them and just use the actions.

I shot a couple back then, and owned one, a .204 Ruger won in a drawing at the SHOT Show.

Like a lot of Remington 700s, even the VTR had a "pressure point" in the front of the forend, supposedly to dampen barrel vibrations for finer accuracy. Like just about every Remington 700 I've ever owned, it shot more accurately after I free-floated the barrel.

Still have the rifle, but it's now on its third stock and second barrel--a Remington take-off sporter-weight that shoots just as well (if not somewhat better) than the original factory barrel.

My buddy and I bought three when they first came out. I bought the 223, my bud went all in with a 223 and a 308.

I sold mine off years later to the same friend. He wanted it for his wife. The rifle never shined in the accuracy department for me.

My brother has one in 204 Ruger. He bought it new. The factory stock was garbage. I ended up bedding it in a LTR take-off and went through a bunch of different factory loads to find one it liked for him. I don't remember the details, but he's still shooting woodchucks with it.

My buddy and I each bought one in 308. I bedded mine in the factory stock using JB Weld compound. Best move was upgrading the trigger to a Timney wide blade trigger. I still think that was the best trigger on any rifle I have ever owned. Handloaded some Sierra 165 grain HPBTs over some CFE-223 and it was remarkably accurate. Killed my first decent deer at 455 yards with that bullet and a Nikon Prostaff 5 4.5-18x scope with the weird circular BDC reticle. Worded like a champ, broke both shoulders and went less than 30 yards. I only sold it because I got a .30 cal suppressor and needed a better rifle host. Sold the VTR for a Tikka CTR.

I’ve got a 204 that I’d like to trade for a 2.5-10 nxs

my oldest son has one in .223. i believe he had a smith lessen the trigger pull. he's killed a lot of coyotes with the rifle, as well as several whitetails. he's quite satisfied with it. ymmv.

I have a VTR in .223. Factory loads about an inch. Handloads about 1/2 inch. I will not sell mine. I have seen a few .308 for sale, but not many of others.
