Found a new in the box classic stainless 300 ultra mag today.... previous owner bought it and never shot it Sold it to me for what he paid for it (had the receipt in the box) I didn’t need it but it is interesting for sure. Made me wonder what other calibers were chambered for them ( I have a 270 weatherby mag and a pair of 375h&h mags ( one six digit and one 5 digit).

Have never seen a 7 rum but like the 223 we’ve discussed, I’ve heard rumors.

I owned a .300 RUM model 70 SS and it was astonishingly accurate.
I shot more .2 and .3 groups with that rifle than all the other fluke groups I ever shot.

I think I paid around $520 for it at Sportsman's Warehouse.

I know where there’s one 416 Rigby with amazing wood that rolled out of the custom shop. It’s the only one as far as I know and the guy who owns it paid dearly for it when they closed up shop.

There were some fun chamberings that came out of the custom shop. 280, 300 h&h, 416 Remington come to mind.

375 RUM is another one out of the custom shop as well..

.416 Rem was a limited as well in the same time frame as the .358's.

The only stainless 416 I have seen had a CS stamp which the 358 STA was lacking. Was there a non CS run of the 416 also?

I thought the 358's were custom shop rifles as well I guess, A small run all done in the CS and released? I could be wrong. There was a small run of the .416's, not just "one-offs". SS/Wood and I believe you're correct regarding them being custom shop rifles. I guess I'd consider a run like that similar to the SharpShooter/SharpShooter II, yes done in the custom shop, but, not as "one-offs".

Far as I know, there never were any 7 RUM's made in the Classic Stainless. CS maybe, anything goes there. I do, however own a 7mm STW, so I know those were made. I have been lusting for a 270 Weatherby for years, maybe one day! LOL

Either 2 or 3 years ago I saw a SS Classic action 300RUM w/factory carbon-wrapped bbl. Bbl had all the normal Winchester writing. I couldn't recall that ever being an option, but, it must've been as all the printing in the CF was exactly as you'd expect it to be on any factory Winchester bbl. This was a New Haven rifle. In hindsight, I wish I'd bought several M70 300RUM's along the way but being eyeballs deep in 300Win stuff has always stemmed the impulse at the time.

our local BiMart chain had them, all with blued barrels and in big magnum cartridges only....

bought someone's stock, guess just to liquidate them...

if they weren't those big magnum calibers I'd have bought a couple... they were selling them for $250 each here in town...brand new in the box..

I think eventually the local gun shops came in and bought them all... because they weren't moving due to their calibers.

My CM 280 Fwt Classic came “through” the custom shop in ‘92.
Terrific accuracy. Nice wood.

Still required some warranty “adjustment” to the bolt face for feeding.

My only regret is that the 280 wasn’t available in SS, unless I was willing to pay CS price, & wait.

No, regular production, G5digit sn, Mine was first Fwt 280 in Western Canada
The early Classics were finished/ inspected in the CS, Or so I was told ; Here ?

In any case , feeding was initially quite rough, but was taken care of. Nicely.

Good stuff guys. I'd also like to point out that the op did great with the purchase price. I remember back in the late 90's I ran across a 300wby classic stainless. The price tag was $1,000.00 back then, so I passed. I still wished I would have had the money to buy it.

I've seen exactly 1 M70 Classic Fwt CM/Wood 280Rem. File that one in the "Should've bought it" category.

I think MD had one pass through his rotating inventory of temporary treasures a few years back .
He won’t admit it, but I suspect he is a 270 fellow. ;-)
