Does anyone have any info on these rifles? i saw one at local gun shop, do they shoot as well as they look? thanks, ron
I don't have I but a few months ago when I was in Chuck's I asked the owner about them. He said he had sold about 20 & they were the current "in rifle" with Atlanta's new rich. 1 of his customers in the armchair section said he had 1 & really liked it & his was a 1/2" rifle. I have known Jack since he was a kid & he knows more about upper end guns than anyone I know. Since most of Jack's new rich customers are inreal estate, I think he'll have some used 1's for sale next year, if the price is right, I'll probably buy 1.
thanks for the reply, the shop i was in, regular price said 2695.00 on sale for 1695.00
I have a K1, but am not familiar with the designation KR1, nor can I find it in my Merkel catalog or on their U.S,. distributor's website.
My K1 is a .308 Winchester, purchased a couple of years ago at Briley's in Houston. It shoots 3/4" or less with the handload I mostly use (150 Nosler AccuBond and 46.5 Varget) or Federal factories with the 150 Ballistic Tip.

RLA-
They are similar in some significant respects to the Blaser R93 in that they are a straight-pull bolt action and that saddle mount-the base/ring apparatus-are virtually the same as the Blaser's also.
Their stock is obviously more continental in design, a little too severe for me but I have no doubt as to their over-all quality.

Ah, THAT rifle! Now, why did they give it such a similar model # as the single-shot?
yup, i was hoping for another single shot read...

KR1 (@ Merkel) means Kurzrepetierbchse #1 (Kurz = Short, Repetierbchse = BoltActionRifle)
K1 (@ Merkel) means Kipplaufbchse (break/tip open rifle)
Merkel K1 and Blaser K77/K95 - no wonder because Horst Blaser constructed/"develloped" both - feature same basics (very strong, reliable tip open bloc action, similar proprietary saddle mounts).
Merkel KR1s feature a turn bolt, NO straight pull like the Blaser R93 - or the Strasser 05 which also is a brainchild of old Horst Blaser. BTW Horst Blaser is no longer owner of the Blaser Company. Owner is Michael Lke, who also bought Sauer and Mauser.
Edited for add on

Even for me it`s not always easy to get through all these types of sauerkraut guns..
Beautiful guns. I know this is one of those "if you have to ask you can't afford one" questions, but what price range is the Merkel K1 in?
Merkel K1 (now dubbed "K3") Kipplaufbchse - single loading, hand cocking, tip bloc action - from 2500 Euro
Merkel KR1 (bolt action) from 1800 Euro

I've handled the Merkel K1s in a few calibers and they are indeed fine; handy, light, with good balance and very nice workmanship. I believe they are worth their price.
