Does anyone make a 6mm Rem. in a varmint configuration rifle?

The only factory production bolt action heavy barrel/varmint rifles in 6mm that I recall are the Remington 700s and the tang safety Ruger 77s.

Remington also used to catalog the 6mm Rem in their M40X. I remember the M700 BDL Varmint in 6mm Rem in the 70s, a friend shot one.

I don't see the 6mm Rem listed in the 2009 catalog.

I have the 40X repeater in 6mm, they come from the Rem custom shop so you can have just about any caliber you wish. My partner has the 6mm in the Rem Varmint Special that is no longer offered. Both rifles shoot exceptionally well.

Used to be available in Remington 700 BDL Varminter.



Fixed this one up for my nephew. HS Precision stock, with Elite 4200 4x16 scope on Burris Signature rings and bases.

The varmint, laminated, was the last thing I saw Rem chamber for the 6mm. I don't pay much attention to their KS stuff. They don't list the VLS in that chambering any longer, but I'm pretty sure they did up until a year, or three, ago.

Of course it's really easy to just have any ol' .308 or similar rifle re-barreled for the 6mm Remington...

Great little cartridge by the way. I've been shooting one since 1974, and just put a few more rounds through it about an hour ago! Rockchucks...

The 6mm Remington is an excellent cartridge.

Have had them in Remington 700 Varmint Specials, Remington LH 788 rifles, custom Sako and Savages, and lots of others.

The 6mm is also fun necked-down to 224.

We also could neck them up to .257". No - wait, that would be the .257 Roberts. Well, .264", then. Oh, wait, again - that would be the 6,5x57.

Yeah, much better cartridge than the .243. I had a 660 Rem. in 6 m/m, I loved that gun, wish I still had it. I have a tang safety 77 Ruger now. I like it but, it's not near as acurrate as that little 660 was. The 6 m/m should be alot more popular than it is. Shows you what gunwriter hype can do.

Ruger also chambered it in the No.1V single shot. Sadly, no longer. Mine shoots 95gr Bergers quite well.....

I've always doted on my first year of production Rem 700 6mm. The 20" barrel used to bother me, but no longer. The stamped checkering is no great drawback to a stock that (for me) is perfectly shaped and proportioned. I fondly remember a 485 yard chuck shot, and crows sniped at 300-plus yards. It has always shot under an inch, and I have used it for hunting chipmunks and blackbirds to deer and bear. I have two loads for it, and they serve. A couple of years ago I 'willed' the rifle to my son, but he refuses to take it. Says I'd miss it. He's right. Still, I have a package of reloading stuff and some favorite loads all ready for the day when he says: "Now, Dad." I'm in my 7th decade now, maybe it'll be Fate that says "Now."

Last Summer, I bought a Rem 722 B grade in 244 Rem. It's the same as the 6mm Rem, only with a 1-12 twist.
The accuracy is there with this rifle.
95 grain Nosler Partitions and 80 grain Bergers are THE bullets for best accuracy.

Good luck finding one as I feel they are better than the 243 Win's, but YMMV.

Having never owned a .243, and not likely to, I still think the 6mm is a bit more versatile.
