I am looking at purchasing a fine example of a Sako Forester deluxe in .243. The gun has never been fired and should be considered as new. No dings, marks or issues etc.

It is very pretty and has the rosewood fore end and a tree design on the grip cap. It also has the funky little two horned thing on the bottom plate (what is that?)

What is a fair price for his firearm or what would one expect to pay?

Big I really don't know what that gun would be worth but if you will let me know where that gun is I will go look it over for you....grin.

My guess would be around $1000 depending if it had the box or not. Take that for whats it worth I could be a couple hundred or several hundred off either way.

He wants $1500 + / - for it. It is truly a gorgeous gun and i want it but I believe it is overpriced by around $300 or so. It is the Deluxe and has the original box with it.

I know that it would be hard to find another like this so you have to consider that with the price. However, he will do package price and throw in a Sako AI in .17 Rem in 95% condition with it for a package price of $2200. Touch call as I was just getting ready to pull the trigger on another Cooper that cost $1700 and I know I would get more use out of it....but those Sako's sure are pretty.

Why would you use a Cooper more than a Sako?

According to the Sako Collectors website, Sako didn't produce the All action until 1978. Prior to that it would have been a L579. Doesnt sound like a mid 60's rifle.

Good question on using the Cooper more than the Sako. Prolly cause I was going to buy the Cooper in .204 for Prairie doggin whereas the Sako would be more for collector purposes.

The serial # is 353XXX. I looked on a pdf file that I found on the web, I guess I was wrong about the year. I don't know a whole lot about Sako's as I don't own any of them right now. Always wanted one....

What a waste of a perfectly fine rifle. Never shot? A TRAVESTY by gosh. So with that in mind, I'd negotiate real hard. Might not be a shooter.

Make no mistake - I would shoot it, just probably not as much as my other ones. I shoot all my guns (OK I have one Colt SAA that I just can't bring myself to shoot). Guns are for using, shooting and enjoying. Just like my wife's "just looking at towels" what good are they if you can't enjoy them.

I'm guessing that this gun would be a shooter as I have heard great things about them.

Serial number 353212 was probably produced in 1982 or 1983. For reference, serial number 100XXX sold on Gunbroker about three weeks ago for $905. It was as new in box, but did not have the box or papers. I hope this helps.

Absolutely helped me out quite a bit, thank you. As much as I would like to have this rifle the guy is just priced higher than what I am willing to pay.

So back to what I want to buy.... I actually just took delivery of a new Cooper model 52 Excalibur in 280 Ackley Improved, desert camo stock, sweet gun. Maybe I'll get something in .257 wby mag as I have always wanted one of those. you know how you just get that itch every once in awhile to buy a rifle? I have that now again.

I get the itch to buy a new rifle everyday....grin.

I have a spot for the sako's. I always wanted a cooper but after the donating to obama I just can't bring myself to buy one. How does your 280AI shoot?

Haven't shot it yet. Heck I just finally got the chance to shoot my new Savage LRPV 6BR that I have had for three months a few weeks ago. Went Prairie Doggin in Nebraska last weekend, total blast.

I suspect that if that 280AI shoots as good as my other Coopers I will be happy with it.

A Deluxe on the 579 unfired would command what he is after, but I'd pass on an AII for the price, especially a 243.

I alawys thought for the money a cooper was a pretty good buy. If Dan Cooper was not such a ass I would own one of them.
