I was cruising through Cabelas the other day, just letting the grandkids check out all the dead critters, when a new RCBS chronograph caught my eye.

My Shooting Chrony is over twenty years old, and sometimes I find its data suspect.

Any thoughts, or reviews on the RCBS product?
I don't think I can use anything that looks like that.

I'm afraid if I accidentally nicked the difuser support it would shoot back at me!

My ProChrono Plus is still working great after 20 years. If it dies I will send it back to be rebuilt or buy another from the same folks.
Well, there is that. I could just send the Chrony back to the factory and have the alignment of the sensors checked and squared.

But the new ones have all kinds of trick features like memory and statistics, which mine does not. And for very little additional cost.
I recently sold my Shooting Chrony Beta and the unit I decided on to replace it was the ProChrono Digital with the laptop connectivity program.
I've had a PC Digital before and they really work well.
The laptop kit allows me to control the unit from the bench, makes data storage and manipulation easy, and provides a great big display.

I don't know if I would worry about it shooting back....but would it be safe from theft by wives?
I cornered an RCBS rep at SHOT this year and told her the unit would never sell because it's just too "cutesy" to be taken seriously by guys.

I see I was right.
Easy marketing fix Rocky.

Larger read screen, and show boobs while caculating the past shot velocity.

Guys will buy it, wink!

Nice price but I see they are out of stock, too bad they just dont put a USB port on it instead of selling a connectivity kit.
get the CED millennium you'll be glad you spent the few dollars more that they cost
Thanks stxhunter,

I think I could get along with this one.

CED Millennium 2 Chronograph System

The Infrared Lighting Upgrade allows CED chronographs to work indoors or even in total darkness.
# Voice Chip technology - Results can be heard as well as seen
# On / Off control, with no-memory loss "Auto-Shut Down" mode
# PC Downloads - USB interface for fast, software downloads of stored data
# Over 1000 shot capacity with up to 500 string permanent memory
# Records velocities from 50 fps to 7,000 fps
# High, Low, Average, & Hi-Average velocity readings
# Extreme Spread & Standard Deviation
# Edit & Omit functions
# Built-in Calculator
# New Data Collector Software program included

The best feature, it does not need a laptop. It comes bundled with a USB cable which can be used on my desk top computer.

It would be a good start toward the RSI shooting lab also.

I think I just talked myself into it.
i left mine sitting on the shooting bench at the ranch for a week one time, thought my brother had loaded it up. it got rained on and sat in 100 dg+ weather. i change the batteries and it was good to go
Just to be perfectly clear the ProChrono Digital does not need a laptop either.
The unit is a complete, functioning, data collecting machine right out of the box.

Here is the blurb from the Competition Electronics site.

Accurate velocity measurement for rifles, pistols, arrows and shotguns. Easy to set-up and use with a HUGE shooting area. Store 9 shot strings with up to 99 shots per string in power down memory. Review through each velocity and shot data including standard deviation, extreme spread and average velocity. Optional indoor light kit required for indoor use. Durable plastic light diffusers are included.

The laptop kit merely adds functionality to an already strong unit.
I have a CED and believe it a good investment.

That is a nice feature for those who own a laptop. But I don't. It seems that the USB cable is included with the CED.

I had heard Oehler chronographs were no longer available. I am glad to see production of the 35 P has resumed, if only temporarily.

The 35 P is recognized as the industry standard. But it is also the same price as having a new barrel installed at Pac-Nor. It is actually more chronograph than I need.

Thanks to all for the suggestions and the alternatives. I think I am sold on the CED Millennium 2.
