Ok, I travel 72 miles one-way to work, and I do this 5 days per week. can I claim this on my taxes?

Do you ask CPAs for gun writing advice? Just curious as I personally wouldn't trust tax advice gleaned from gunwriters... wink

That is consider commuting.. so NO it can not be claimed as a deduction. ON the contrary, business people can claim mileage as it is done in the name of pursing business..

If you are self employed get a local PO box near you then the mileage starts from there.

If you were considered a contract employee in which case you would get a 1099 from whomever you're working for (essentially self employed as stated above) than you can declare the mileage. Other wise NOPE
