I am looking for information on reloading 9x57 Mauser with 180 or 200gr bullets. No...not a 9.3x57...just 9x57. My father recently purchased a 9x587 Mauser and has the dies, brass and 180 and 200 gr bullets but we can not find any information for reloading these bullets. Is there anyone out there that is willing to share any information?

Don't have any data, but welcome to the 'Fire.

Rest assured that if anybody here knows anything about that cartridge they'll be more than willing to share info.

Welcome to the fire. One source you can use for your 9x57 is the book published years ago by Wolfe called Big Bore rifles and cartridges. There is no info about the Mauser 9mm but you have some on the 9x56 Mannlicher and 9,3x57 Mauser. These are very close to the 9x57 and can be used as a very good start. Using 358 Winch load with same bullets can give you a good idea too.

Found a load that you can work around: 247grs cast bullets (lead) 38grs of 3031 in 9x57Mauser. In the 9x56Mannlicher with 250grs Speer (don't know if it's available today) load was from 43 to 46grs 3031. The 9x56 as a smaller bore and must be sized down but that load can be good for your Mauser too.
Good work

From Cartridges Of The World fifth edition
250 gr bullet IMR 30-31....44.0 grs MV-2260fps

I dont know where you are going to find bullets much lighter than this, if at all, other than pistol bullets. Good luck.
I'd start with low end 358 Win data and go from there cautiously. You have the same bore size but a larger case.

I have load for the 9x56 an the 9x57, and they both(mine) have a .355 bore. You will have trouble with the larger .358 bullets pressure wise, if you can even get them to chamber. I have noted the neck diameters on loaded ammo(mine) to be to tight to chamber properly when using.358dia bullets. A gaschecked Lyman 358318 mold, 250gr lead at .355 or .356 worked well in my 9x57, but not in the Mannlicher 9x56 because of the poor bore condition. I tried to swage the proper dia into the jacketed bullets but noticed a distinct lack of accuracy with them. I would slug the bore and be sure what you have, might get lucky and have a .358+ bore.

The 9x57 is a higher pressure round than the 9x56 so any load data for the 56 will be safe in the 57. I like the 3031 loads because I have bunch of it. I fire formed the brass by firing the 8x57 in the 9 chamber and got perfect cases, no pressure problems at all. accuracy sucked though, 8 in a 9 hole.

Be very careful of old ammo, I had a less than happy go around with some older Kynoch factory stuff, not good!!
Hope this helps some.
Happy Thanksgiving and thanks so much to all that are helping my Father and I with this "project" We certainly appreciate all the information and quick responses. I am printing out this information for Father to "study" and we will keep you posted on our adventure. Just so you know, Father picked up 180and 200gr Hornady. Thanks again....

Loaddata.com has some data. Some is from Cartridges of the World and the remainder is from issue 24. Lightest bullet weight shown is 200 grains.

There is 'some' data out there - you just have to search for it. I always compare it to .358 Win data before using it.

I had my barrel slugged and was told .358 jacketed bullets should work fine. You might ask a smith to do that for you. I can't find my reference materials for this gun (still in a box somewhere from a move last year), but I think there may be multiple common bore / groove dimaters.

Is your rifle a Mauser 98? I have one in a Mauser 93, so I stick to lead bullets at low pressure. I'll dig up some loads and send them tomorrow when I get home.

I have a JP Sauer sporter on a 98 with a 19" barrel thats been in the family quite a while. The barrel slugs .3565-.357. Grandpa's loads were 3031 that Chrono 2050 fps with today's IMR 3031 with 250gr Hornaday .358 bullets. Quite mild to shoot and has accounted for many whitails and a couple of moose and a black bear. I would think (scary) that a 200 gr bullet could be made to go 2500 without straining anything....providing a good 98 action, and using .358 Win starting data as a starting point.
