My .223 Rem. shoots very well with the 40 grain V-Max and I was looking to trying the Z-Max; now I am told this line of bullets is no longer being produced. Anyone know why?

M Bell
The Z-Max is the same exact thing as the V-Max. All they did was change the tip color.
Why?
Marketing to folks who think the zombie thing is cool....
Nothing spells zombie killer like a sparkley green tip instead of a red one I guess. crazy
Because it was stupid, in a very juvenile kind of way.

I'd go as far as calling it a bit irresponsible.

Yeah, the green tip is like mucus, or buggers or something.

Ya never know when them fuggin' ZOMBIES are gonna come and getcha, grin so you better have lots of Zombie ammo and a dedicated Zombie gun!!!

Steve

Yeah...it was discontinued because it was stupid...and P.T. Barnum was right, so they sold a LOT...

OTOH I enjoyed the close-out price I got on a buttload of PD and goph bullets! grin

I got mine. A 22lr to the head is a more deadly , uh...
anyway...
It de-animates them better than a 12ga slug to the chest.

There ya go....grin.

All it would have taken is one "buffy the vampire slayer" kid to shoot up the school lunchroom with his dad's mini-14 stoked with z-max.......Hornady would be sued into bankruptcy.
I think I've found out what I needed (wanted?) to know!

Thanks,
M Bell
So where did you hear the Z-Max was discontinued?
Probably the guy that was mixing up the plastic for the tips messed up and made them the wrong color. wink Hornady got them at a discount because they were the wrong color, threw together a clever marketing campaign and sold them out. Lemons into lemonade! grin

Who told you that? Because I am going to go out on a limb and guess it was not Hornady.

Travis
Pink ones for Breast Cancer Awareness woulda been a better idea...

I think it was Black Hills Shooters Supply or some name close to that.
MD,

Black Hills Shooters Supply did not list them in their current flyer, so I called to find out why, and was informed Hornady had discontinued them. They were not sure why.

M Bell
I've got several boxes. Sealed away for sometime in the future. Given the fall of the dollar I'd loose money on them no matter how long I held them. Just a conversation piece for the future I guess.
Or perfect for World War Z
FWIW Hornady still lists them in their products on their website.
Everybody knows that Dragons Breath is much more effective against zombies. You don't even have to head shoot them.

http://www.hornady.com/store/Z-MAX-Bullets/

I use em because they are VMax bullets at a much cheaper rate!
Powder Valley still has them in stock @$59.69 per 500 count.

Fedtacticaldirect has the same count box for about $6 less, FWIW.
Abbey (sounds hot) from Hornady said they have not, nor do they intend to discontinue the Z-Max line.

GFY,
Travis
I was just there a couple of weeks ago on a factory tour and the girls that work the front desk are hot indeed.
Chit...so I was wrong about them being discontinued???

Prices still good....better get some more!!!
How could I possibly be wrong about something this important...? shocked

Bruin, when you posted about that the other day I checked it out.
Great prices on most items, but the "handling charge" + UPS put them right at everyone else's price.
Mine last 1000 came from Mid-South

17 Caliber .172 Diameter 20 Grain Zombie Z-Max 500 Count
HORNADY AMMUNITION AND RELOADING

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Price: $53.73

Thanks for the heads up though. Maybe if a fella put together a large dollar order it all works out. My .02

wageslave
You can move here.

I have a queen size bed, so it won't be awkward or anything.

XOXO,
Travis
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I'll take the couch. Three's a crowd.
Been on the Hi-line too long?

If not for me, you'd all still be staring at the sky waiting for Christ to return with Z-Maxes.

I should be in Helena on the 9th. I'll come see you, but I would like a free beer.

Travis
Bad news dude...I got free beer, but on the 9th I'll be on my way back east to pick up a new dog and begin training him...

FWIW the free beer doubles for any young stud that volunteers to decoy for him... grin
I am a cheap date....

Travis
How cheap?

Would you trade one Natty Lite for a bite? grin

BTW: Thats his Mom...he will look a little more, shall we say...'imposing'.... wink
Dog no scare me.

I'll suit up. But I want some IPA at the end of the day.

Travis
Nobody mentioned a suit.... whistle
also... FN H is buying Blue tipped ones as fast as they can to keep up with 5.7 ammo demand.

( on the line, it's a matter of switching a few color beads per thousand or so... )

What can I say except that the UPS man brings treats for my doggy and keeps my wife company while I slave away at The Campfire work. smile
I would love to be a UPS man. You could clean up.

Wow, mail order. Anyone here really still "mail order" anything? Internet, sure, all the time. Anyone with kids knows UPS can bring me a box before I get a chance to go to the store for more bullets.

I'm talking real mail order--clip out the page from the catalog, write the item number, enclose check, send in the envelope? Anyone?

Paper dinosaur. Coupons used to be worth more than the paper they were printed on-kinda like the dollar bill.

Yes, me either, although I don't go to houses.

But we aren't Zeus like Deflave. Not to mention the power of, yes, the aviators.
