I have combo gun in above caliber over 12ga that I want to use strictly for coyote hunting. I have a couple of hundred BA 55gr .228 bullets on order. I have three books with 22 HP data but only one has data for the 55gr bullet, P. O. Ackey's but I'm always a little leary of his data.

I have lots of data for the 219 Zipper for 55gr .224 bullets with a number of suitable powders, seeing aß the two appear to have the same capacity and loaded for lever guns can I use 219 data for 55gr bullets in the 22HP with 55gr .228 bullets?

You guys seem to have the most experience loading the 22HP so I thought this might be the best place to ask.

I do use 25-35 Win data to load my 6.5x58R Sauer (.260 bullet) and it works well as they are very close in capacity and action strength.

Thank You

erich
I would be confident in at least substituting starting .219 Zipper loads in the .22 HP, and seeing what sort of velocity results with the .228 bullets.

In my last .22 HP I settled on 29.0 grains of IMR3031 with 50-55 grain .224 bullets. Velocities ran 3100-3200, depending on the bullet, with good accuracy.
I haven't messed much with light bullets in the HP, except for cast bullet loads which I don't think you're asking about. If I tried lightweight jacketed bullets again I would do what JB recommended.

I do shoot a fair number of BA .228 60 grain bullets, backed by fairly stiff charges of 3031, and get excellent accuracy (in Savage lever guns with their nominal 1-12" twists) but I never chrono'ed any of them. I suspect they would make excellent predator bullets, and since reading JB's latest book am re-thinking my attitude toward their use on deer. (I sectioned a couple in my milling machine and found them to have much thinner jackets than those found on other heavier .228 jacketed bullets, which scared me off for that use.) Perhaps I've been overthinking the issue...

I did try some .224 50gr VG's over 3031 and they were fairly accurate to 200 yards, about a 4" group with just the first loàd I tried, better than the factory S&B load by about an inch. I tried them for some non-toxic areas I hunt and should work well with a load of ITX BB's but it scares my to shoot a lot of undersize bullets in a barrel that is not replaceable and not enough meat in it for a rebore.

It sounds like I will have some data for the lighter bullet with a selection of powder.
what are "BA" bullets Gnoahhh?
Buffalo Arms.
I got the Buffalo arms bullets yesterday and loaded some up with mid 219 Zipper loads of 4895 and 4320. The 4895 load looked good at 200 yards so I took the last three rounds and stretched it out to 300 yards, looks like I found my coyote load and the 12ga prints a 1 1/4 oz of NP "F" shot right on top of the aiming point at 40 yards in a nice tight cluster.

Bingo!
Any idea of what your velocity is?
Just guestimating 3000-3200.
