Can anyone tell me why 6.5 Creedmoor dies are so much more expensive than dies in other calibers such as .243,.270,30/06,7Mag. etc.

Just a guess but it may have something to do with the popularity of the CM.

Save money on dies, shoot factory loads.

At Midwayusa the Lee "ultimate" dies are $41 for either 6.5 Creedmoor or 270.

Demand is king, they be in demand.

There is a set in classifieds for 30.00

For the same dies I'm not seeing any difference in price. What I'm not seeing is the less expensive 6.5 dies being available, only the high end stuff.

When I saw the thread title, I expected the 'fire to be draped in black crepe.

IN the scope of things, dies are the cheapest investment a reloader can make.

If a set of dies for any caliber cost $40, just thinking of it... I paid $40 for a box
of 100 Hornady ELX bullets in 30 caliber.. the die set will last a could hundred or
thousand plus of those bullets.

Or a pound of powder running $30.

Was using a 300 Win Die set, to load a couple of test bullets for a friend a couple of
days ago. these were RCBS dies. price on the box was still there. $24.50.

Guess I got my money's worth out of those a long time ago. Also guess I've had them a while.

Buy a good set, good dies are cheap in the overall scheme of things. RCBS or Redding. I wouldn't have anything else. Just my opinion!

Saw the subject line and got hopeful. Opened the thread and so disappointed.

It may be a supply-demand thing. At the range where I volunteer, the Creedmore is very popular.

I have Lee, Forster, and Redding dies for the 6.5 creedmoor. They were all around the same price as those dies for other cartridges. I think what you are seeing is more" high end expensive dies" that are readily availiable for the 6.5 creedmoor because of its benchrest reputation.

No. To verify OP's assertion, I went to Midway (no, I did not go to other sites). He is not comparing "high end dies" to "standad dies".

Redding Most common calibers two die, FL die sets are $42.99 and same die set for 6.5CM are $61.99

He is comparing apples to apples except some apples are 270/30-06/223/243/308/etc and the comparing apple is 6.5CM.

I reassert what I said above, "smart marketing" or, rephrased, "get it while the getting's good" when you are selling in the free market.

Nope. I've never seen a Forster die set. I'm sure they are great.

My last couple of sets have been Forster, and I like them better than anything I have ever used. Redding used to be my go-to dies. But I have also used Lee, RCBS, and Hornady.
