Anyone load 160 gr NPT in 270 WCF ??? Thinking RL26.

yup....and it works just fine.....If you have loading data for RL 26 give it a whirl. I used Supreme 780 but understand it has been discontinued.

I also believe it offers very little over the 150 grain load.

I use 780 for my loads; right in the middle of Hodgdon's data. Have plenty on hand for the bullets in stock. No doubt RL 26 will work as well.

Pretty sure the 160s are plenty for anything walking around WV. Look cool too; kinda Yurropean.

SPS had them on sale for awhile. I think the partition is farther forward on the 160 vs the 150. They fly pretty well and don't give up much to the 150 in trajectory out to 400 yards or so. For elk in the timber they just seem right but unfortunately the elk didn't think so. They sail through deer so never recovered one, darn over penetration. I would just use the R26 150 data and stop short of the max load by whatever margin you and the rifle are comfortable with. I would expect 2850-2950 fps or there about velocity. This is the same as the older powders would push the 150s.

I just checked the Nosler reloading data for R22 and the 160s and the max load is only half a grain less than for the 150 with R22. I would assume the data for R26 would be similar to work up to within a half grain of the max charge for the 150s with R26.

I'm currently doing a ladder test with the load your interested in. Will post results when I have them.

I've used it for a lot of years. It's a great load for over 400 pound game with the 270

I've had good results with 50 grains of IMR 4350 and 53 grains of IMR 4831. Both loads were slightly less than max and accuracy was pretty good in all three rifles used.

I didn't take a great deal of game with that bullet as I preferred the 130 grain partition in that round. Your mileage will vary of course.

CCI 200 RP case 58.5 GR RL 26 2874 FPS 160 GR NP 3 @ 1.15"
Went up to 59 gr but accuracy fell off 270 Win 22" barrel

I wish someone would make a long range 160 like an eldx

Based on my experience with RL26 and 150g NPt's, my guess was 58.5 gr of RL26 with 160's would produce 2850-2900 fps. I have a few bags of 160g seconds from SPS I've been intending to load.

Alliant lists 60.8 grains of R26 as max for the 150 PT for 3,022 fps. If it holds true to the R22 data I think you could go up to 60 grains with the 160 and still be good on pressure.
This should be within 100 fps of the 150 load or around 2,900 fps.

Agree.

I've used the Nosler maximum book load with IMR 4831 for years, going to try Reloder 26 & see if it beats my old trusty for speed & or accuracy

IMR 4350 for me. Certainly not blessed with a lot of speed but not to be expected either. Nice accuracy, consistent velocity and everything falls over dead.

Does anyone have recommended loads using 4350 or 4895 powders and the 160 gr NPT?

IMR 7977 start at 56.4 grains and work up to 60 grains or H-1000 start at 55 grains and work up to 59 grains. Standard large rifle primer

H-4350 start at 46 grains and work up to 49 grains standard large rifle primer

My most accurate load with the 160's was 54.5 gr. of H4831sc out of a 22" barrel. Velocity right at 2700 fps.

I loaded Noslers most accurate load in my Rem 700, shot 5/8" groups, I called it good with the 160 partition.

Thanks for the info. I’ll start working up some loads based on your help.
