I have to thank you John as you answered a question I've had for several years. About five years ago I bought five boxes of 7x57 brass as sold by Herter's. Boxes said, "Made in Sweden," I asked on line off and on with out anyone seeming to have a clue. You article in Handloader said Herter's was made by Norma, something I kind of suspected but didn't know for sure. So, thanks for answering my question.

I had read it was made by Norma. What I have never been able to verify is if the "wasp waisted" bullet that Herter's used in their house brand was also made by Norma? Is that bullet a re-naming of another Norma bullet or special made for Herter's. I remember my uncle ordering 10 boxes of Herter's 130 grain wasp wasted 270. This was in the 60's. I expect there may be some of those cartridges still floating around back with my family.

They might be floating around but I have those actual bullets firmly stored in my shop. I look at them from time to time for amusement. Picked up in a batch of stuff one time.

There's a great picture in the Norma Number 1 manual of cases with different company headstamps, but all manufactured by Norma. There's a whole bunch of European and American brands but a whole bunch more it's hard to read as it's a black a white photo. It goes to show that just because you buy, say Winchester brass, it doesn't mean it was made by Winchester. I think I read or heard somewhere that Norma makes all Sako brass, but can't back that up with hard data.

But thank goodness for Norma brass. Over the past five years Remington and Winchester brass has been hard to get out here at times and other US brass has been the same. But Norma brass was every where to fill the gaps in common cartridges and some not so common (7x64, 7x57 etc.) Very good brass and not that much dearer then Rem and Win either.

PJGunner,

Sorry I didn't respond earlier! Thought I had, but apparently not. You're very welcome.
