Do you know why hornady discontinued this bullet? Also how tough was this bullet? I picked up box from lgs that has a pile of them. When things settle down will get out try them in my 375 H&H.

When a bullet company discontinues one of their products, it's generally because the bullet didn't sell well enough to justify using their machines to produce more.

I have no idea how tough the 300-grain boattail was, but the 270-grain Spire Points work pretty well.

We used both the 300 Gr Hornady BTSP and the 270 gr.Hornady on a number of plains game animals in Africa. The 270 grainer was as near perfect for the elk sized critters as you could get. The 300 grainer also worked very well..the difference is that we never recovered a 300 grain bullet-complete penetration- and we did recover a number of 270 grainers.
From that I'd guess the 300 grainer was pretty tough.

I'm not MD, but I did load it for moose quite a few years ago. Didn't get a chance on a moose, but I had confidence in it. It has a .050" jacket (thinner at the mouth),the Interloc ring, plus the cannelure, so it should work well enough in my view. It was leaving the muzzle of my M70 at about 2565 fps.It was recommended by Hornady for LG and DG. B.C. was .460.

I have used them and had a few bear hunting clients use them and from my experience they are accurate, hold together and work quite well
