I am planning a trip to Africa and want to find a replacement for .375 Barnes Banded Solids. I am seeing information on any of you who have used Cutting Edge .375 banded solids. I like the concept of bands as I believe that it is easier on a barrel allowing displaced hard metal to go somewhere other than into the grooves. Anyway, that is my theory. I am aware of the other bullets out there, but am really seeking answers about using the Cutting Edge Banded Solids.

CEB solids are very good. Use with confidence

I would also look at the Woodleigh hydro statically stabilized bullet. Apparently it has good straight line penetration while creating a larger secondary wound channel than a conventional solid. No first hand experience with then though.

I’ve used CEB BBW#13 - their Safari Solid - on 2 elephants. Multiple feet of straight line penetration through skull bone in one case and through the chest in the other, so a very effective bullet. The one recovered is reloadable, with only the engraved rifling evident, no deformation.

The bullets I used were 0.509”, not 0.375”, but the design and build are identical, so I would anticipate terminal performance to be equal, commensurate with your cartridge. I also use CEBs in 0.423” but have no report yet on performance on game. Hopefully will get to use those on the next safari, if it becomes safe to travel to Zim in 2021.

Barnes Banded Solids are very good and consistent performers ballistically, but I would recommend CEBs without reservation, based on the experience cited.

Thanks for the real world information Wildcatter264, I bought some 300gr BBW #13 solids for my pre-64 375 H&H, they feed like butter and run an accurate 2700 fps over RL-17.

You may want to try some North Fork flat nosed solids, if you can find any on the internet.

I was wondering why you wanted to switch from the Barnes solids so I went to their website and saw that they don't list any solids in .375 caliber. Looks like the .375 caliber bullet has been discontinued. Anyone know why?

Because the BATF under Obama ruled them illegal, since no hsndgun bullet can be sold in the U. S. if it is considered non expanding by the BATF. Since there are handguns made in 7mm, 30, 338, 375, 458 which means Barnes can not produce and sell these bullet. If they made them out of a diffetent material they could make them again

The swift Break away's are a phenomenal solid..... This may be unavailable but if you can get your hands some of the old speer tungsten containing solids they simply can't be stopped.
