I have finally been able to gather all I need to load for my .577/500 No.2 BPE. I am new to the double rifle world but have been reloading for 50 years or so with both smokeless and black powder. Is it necessary to resize the case each time on a double rifle when both barrel fired cases interchange? I understand this is more of a plains game rifle. I have done some tinkering at 25 yards and have both barrels shooting at POA. This is an 1875 T. Turner hammer double. What range would these type of rifle be regulated to? I'm shooting 340 grain cast over 145 grains of black powder with .062 card, and 1 lubed wad over the powder.

thanks
50 yards.

Can't answer for that rifle but I had a William Evans 450/400 that was made in 1898 and it was regulated at 100 meters. The good thing about handloading your ammo is that you can play with the powder charge (as long as you don't exceed the proof marks) and get it to regulate at a different range. Less powder means the paths of the bullets will cross closer and more powder means they will cross farther. You just have to play with it. Took me about a year to get a handload that printed both softs and solids to the same point of regulation.
Thanks MAC.
My .405 DR regulates both 300 and 400 grain bullets at appropriate distances. I did this to match the fact that my Winchester 1895 .405 shoots both 300 and 400 grain bullets well.

Yes, I think that this was the typical standard distance, and with a maximum 2 inch spread between shots. My 500NE double does within this at 50yds and 100yds - I can't remember whether the shots had actually crossed somewhere in between, I'd have to go through my records. Good to know but I think most shots would be intended to be fired at ranges less than 50 yards with this rifle/cartridge. Maybe with the smaller and medium bores 100yds would be a better distance for regulation.
Thanks all for the info.
Do y'all anneal the brass again after firing? I have 2" groups at 25 yds. pretty consistently. Goin to try 50 yds. in the next outing.
