I do see a red Pachmayer recoil pad in its future! If it shoots I might even have it case colored.
Always wanted one of these.
Very nice rifle. Congrats and Enjoy.
PS- I agree on the red pad.
Happy to see you scored one!
I have been shooting the Hornady 300 grain bullet in both my 450-400 and 405. IIRC I posted my load (reduced ) with H4895 in the single shot thread.
Nice rifle. Fun cartridge.
When I had mine I had a shotgun style safety modification ask the ejecting empties didn’t rebound back into the chamber. And a nice express sight rear blade.
Sometimes regret selling it!
pacecars,
I used Lyman mold 410655 in mine, with a 92-6-2 lead/antimony/tin alloy. The bullets weighed 408 grains, and grouped pretty well with both Accurate 5744 and Swiss 1-1/2 F.
I've got Hornady once fired brass if you're interested.
PM me.Thanks

That's good to hear, John. I posted this in pacecars' other thread in the singleshot forum, but that's the same bullet I bought a sample of to try in my No.1 450/400. I've only used Trail Boss with it but have wanted to try 5744 and blackpowder as well.
What's a good range to sight in a big 400 gr. Bullet ,dead on at 50-75 yards?
Have fun with your new baby

I will definitely give those a try. Might even try to find some paper patch bullets also
Added the scope in QD rings. Waiting on the red pad to be added
Sweet single banger Pacecars, Congtats! you know, 350-400gr CEB BBW#13 flat nosed solids will do it all in that rifle, iirc Harry Selby even used 416 cql 400gr solids on Lion, he said they ddn't complain much LOL, ideally when Woodleigh gets back up and running their 400gr WeldCore round nose softs are a fantastic bullet, you can load that rig from spec to fierce, have fun.
I am going to try some of the cast bullets and the lighter jacketed bullets for the .405 and work up some deer and pig loads
