Anyone know of the 45/70 Derringer made by American Derringer of Waco TX? American Derringer must be asleep at the computer since they have not responded to manual avaliablity and other questions like starting load for the 45/70. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" />

Why would you want anything other than the mildest factory load with such a tiny beast? Go with the Remington 405 grain Express loadings or better yet, with one of the new "cowboy" loadings from Black Hills or somewhere. I have heard tales of broken and sprained wrists just from shooting these things. They are a nice and well-made little gun but to me, the Alaskan Survival Models and such are just curiosa. I saw a dude touch off a 2�" 410 in a 45/410 model one day and it was all he wanted. He only shot it once!

Usually firearms manufacturers won't countenance usage of anything but factory loads in their guns. In many cases, use of handloads will void any warranty which comes with the gun.

I understand the "Hand Load" vs "Factory Load". then extend it a little to include the "Trap Door Load" and the "Modern Gun Load" for the 45/70 Rugers and Marlins of today. What of the derringer of today. I know that what ever I load, most of it will burn four feet in front of me. I there a load that works well for without wasting powder or under occpuping the case.
There are quite a few cowboy loads out there, but since I load my guide gun and do not want to buy self ammo because of pride or principal, I thought that there would be some one out there that loads their own.
