I have a question for those who shoot a 358 Norma Mag. Do you shoot
multiple weight bullets or have you settled on a single weight for all your shooting. All inputs welcomed and appreciated. Thank you.
Cheers NC

I use the 250 gr bullet weight.

I have used both 225's PT & AB) for 30 years. Last year I switched to 250 PT. A 250 at 2810 has some serious snort at both ends.
Accurate too.

I had a ballistic twin of the Norma with my 350 Rigby and shot 250's with it. I'd stick with one weight of bullet, 250's shoot plenty flat and hit plenty hard, can't really see the benefit of 225's and personally would go with a larger caliber to shoot anything heavier.

I agree on the 250's. I have also shot Alaskan game with 225's, but the 250's perform better.

One bullet, the great 250 gr Partition, they fly 2800 fps from a 98 Mauser custom with a load I worked up from 5lbs of old Norma 204 powder.

A very cool round that is very mild mannered in the recoil dept, I expected much worse.

Another vote for the 250 Partition.

According to my cheap ballistics calculator the 250 at 400 yd has 125fps higher velocity, 300fp more energy, 2" less wind drift and only 2" more drop than a 225 TSX. Not enough difference to matter in the real world. The deciding factor was I got a lot of Partitions seconds cheap. Varget or Reloder 15 work well with the 225s and H4350 or 4451 with the 250s. I suspect Big Game will work well with either but haven't tried it yet.

Cheers

People thank you for all the input, but you are breaking my heart as I have about 500 Win. Power Points to shoot up. Any suggestion for what powder to load behind them? Thanks all. Cheers NC

I used Big Game, 200 gr TTSX as high as 3070 fps and 250 gr Speer's at 2750 from a 22" barrel. It shot so well I never did try anything else. I did a bit of work with 225 gr bullets and 275 gr Woodleigh's as well. I have never heard that there was a Winchester PP suitable for use in a 358 Norma, any details on those?

250 Interlocks, Hot-Cors for plinking, Partitions, Grand Slams, A-Frames for hunting with 75 grains 4350.

What weight Power Point? Do you have an expansion box? I don't often shoot Winchester bullets, any more but I've found that the ones I do, hold together pretty well. Those bullets might work out fine in the Norma.
As far as powder try 76 grains of H4350 or IMR4350 should get you above 2700 fps. I'm assuming that the weight is 250 grains with that load. Also that is a top load. Work up to it.

They are the Winnie. 250gr. PP I have a model 110 in 7MM that I am going to re-barrel to the 358NM. I got a good deal on the PP a few years back
and though I need to shoot them up. Cheers NC

250's are hard to beat. They seem to shoot the best not only in my Norma's but in my 350 Rem mag and 348 Win as well. The Partition is very hard to beat.

The first time I used a 22 caliber on deer it was with 55 grain Winchester power points in a 22-250. The bullet did well. That was about 1974, I think. A friend uses Winchester bullets out of a 270 (130 grain) for elk. He likes them -- they hold together well.

I don't often see Winchester bullets for sale.

I shoot my own 358 wildcat which is ballistically a twin to the 358 NM. I use only 250 grain bullets. Due to breakup with the 250 Hornady IlSP on elk, I now prefer a bonded or partition bullet, like the Swift A-Frames or Nosler Partitions.

I'm a two weight guy, when I had my 358 NM I shot 250 gr Horn. RN's for big game and 148gr DEWC over a light charge of 700X in the off season for squirrels, rabbits, fox and assorted vermin around the farm. Someone made me an offer on the 358 I couldn't turn down and do the same with my 35 Whelen now.
