What would a Whitworth 416 Rem Mag be worth?
Posted By: jwp475 Re: Whitworth 416 Be Worth - 03/30/19

No one has an idea what a Whitworth in 416 Remington is worth? The one that I have is the only one that I have ever seen.

I suspect that is true for most of us. Might want to check with the Blue Book of Gun Values. You can buy a one-day online subscription for a few dollars.

So you’re saying it’s not rebarreled or rechambered? Because I’ve never heard of any large calibers besides 375 & 458

It doesn’t appear to be rebarreled or rechambered all markings look original.

The 416 Rem arrived in 1989. I thought the Whitworth's ended before that?

I’ll get some pictures and post them in a day or two

Didn't come up with any Google hits on a Whitworth 416 except for customs.

I saw one at Cabelas on a Whitworth action and I think they were asking a grand for it. Nicely done gun, too.

This.
I have two Whitworth Mark X rifles. 375 H&H and 416 Hoffman. Ultimately value depends on how bad the buyer wants it or the seller need the cash. To research book value start with interarms as they were the importer and have been referred to as such.

I just checked two Blue Books I have, 33rd and 40th editions and 416 didn't show up in either.

I also have never seen or heard of an original .416 Rem chambering in an Interarms Whitworth rifle. Latter production of these rifles had the chamber marking rather distinctive in Cursive (script) writing and quite handsomely accomplished. Located on barrel left, chamber area. If the presumed "416" marking is such a style & location matching, perhaps a real inference. But I'd be surprised!

Does it have the Whitworth express sights on the barrel?

I saw several over the years when working gun counters, all w were either rebarrels or rebores. The one rebore looked very convincing, but the caliber stamp was the give away, print style and year of production. At one time, it was popular to rebore the 375 to 416.They were all just wonderful to handle and just because they were not factory didn't take away from their value in my mind. The 416's add a lot of heavier versatility to a nice setup. So condition and set up are important. Whitworth stamped and banner or Mark X, sights, wood, messed with beyond rebore, cracks, and condition and finish all play a role. Really need at least pictures and detail. Could be $500 or $1750, depends.

Custom job? Depends on who did the work.

Factory? Sky’s the limit.

Long before the 375 Ruger came out, the Whitworth 375's were highly popular with guides. For Christmas bonus the year After the 416 Remington came out, I offered to have a couple of my guide's well worn 375's rebored.
They didn't like them as well.

"They didn't like them as well." Why not? To much recoil?

While slightly off topic, I rebarreled one of my MkX's from .30-06 to .416 Ruger. Absolutely love it!

Top is a Whitworth .375, bottom the .416 Ruger with fresh barrel. Balance on both is the same despite the .416's 2" longer barrel.
