Has anyone put their CZ 550 magnum on a diet? I've a 375 H&H in a factory kevlar stock with a Swaro Z6i that weighs in at 11lbs with a montana sling and 5 rounds in the gun. I carried it fairly comfortably in Africa in 2017 for a good distance daily with little issue. I'd like to bring it to Newfoundland this fall for moose, but I'm concerned about the weight over (from what I've seen and heard) more uneven terrain. What could one reasonably expect to reduce the weight of this rifle to with a stock swap? Barrel was cut to 23" already when Wayne at AHR worked on it in 2015ish.

Factory walnut stock is the lightest I have seen. In hte service, the kevlar stocks on the M24 were crazy heavy. Going from kevlar to walnut will have to save some weight.

I'm a traditionalist, i like the walnut stocks. I stripped my CZ .375 down to slim/rework the stock for handling and aesthetic reasons, with good success, but the stock is so lightweight on its own i doubt if this affected weight much. The weight is in the action/barrel mostly it seems with a traditionally stocked rifle.

I was not a fan of the 25" barrel and had it cut down to 23" which is perfect and i don't think 22" would have bin too short. Didn't affect accuracy at all, but it shaved some ounces off for sure. Enough to make a difference in the bush? Nope. It's just a heavy rifle, as most magnum safari rifles are. You get used to it. Plus it helps keep you in shape.

The 550 magnum is a beast. Too big for a 375 IMO.

I think a standard 550 in 375 ruger would be perfect.

In a CZ550, there is a lot of weight in the large action and barrel. CZ use the same contour for the 375 as they do for the 458’s, so the 375’s tend to be quite heavy. Also the CZ wood stocks are quite chunky all round. The Kevlar stock is slimmer and handles much better IMO.

If you’re wanting to carry something up and down hills I’d be looking at different rifle.
