The Bailey Bradshaw Rising Block DR 500ne & 450-400ne finds a New Home in Wisconsin

Hello All,

Since this Unique double Rifle has been mentioned here, I thought to share the latest news about it.

Over the last 10 years, I've watched several posts on this and other forums about the building of this custom double rifle. With each progressive post, I wished that I had been the one that ordered it for myself. Unfortunately, I am a very impatient man and I never plan that far out into the future. I'm more of a "want-it-now" kind-of guy. However, when this came up for sale a week ago, II just couldn't resist. Seldom do you get a "do-over" in life to negate a regret. And, I only had to wait 4 days for delivery - not 10 years.

As per my many previous posts on this forum, you all know that I love guns that have stories to tell. (just look-up posts by buckstix) Well, what better story to have than purchasing a Custom Double Rifle that has had so much written about it over the past 10 years. And to top it off, its a double rifle with a very unique and interesting "rising block" action. This rifle fits right into my likes of unique double rifles.

Details I've discovered are:

Weight when configured as a 500NE = 10 pounds 13-1/2 ounces w/ 26-1/8" barrels.
Weight when configured as a 450-400-3" = 9 pounds 14-1/2 ounces w/ 26-3/4" barrels.
14-1/4" LOP

As a follow-up, I spent nearly an hour talking with Bailey Bradshaw about his building this wonderful rifle. In addition to a lot of detailed engineering history, a few points that really impress me were; - the rifle's action was re-started and rebuilt from scratch several times as design improvements were developed. All of which were incorporated into this final action - All the deep relief engraving and gold inlays were done by Bailey Bradshaw himself - Bailey said he used over 11 feet of 22 carat gold wire in the inlays - He said this was the most elaborate rifle that he has ever made.

The rifle with both barrels are now housed in a compact toe-under canvas & leather case that I was able to customized to fit my newly acquired treasure. (As I've done with several of my cased doubles, I designed and made the parchment case label for this rifle)

Below are a few repeat pictures as seen before, and a few detailed ones that I have added. I've also listed the youtube videos that were made made by Bradshaw during the course of building the rifle, as well as a link to his web page. I can't wait to get to the range.

You seem to find some unique rifles.

Nice one.

Bailey is a true artist and craftsman. Not many folks can engineer, blacksmith, machine, engrave, and carve a stock like Bailey can. He raises some pretty good Wagyu beef also.
That is a beautiful rifle
Needless to add that this is a breathtakingly beautiful rifle. I hope you plan to carry it as you move within 25 yards of an old bull elephant, with both 500 NE 3” barrels loaded with 570 grain CEB BBW #13s.

Cheers!!

Hello Wildatter264,
Thanks for the reply.
I doubt I'll ever get to hunt elephants, but I'll take it hunting for sure.
Sir, you have a beautiful rifle. Fine craftsmanship in steel and walnut becomes a work of art.
