Two burgers, and a bottle of water, 21 clams. It hit the spot.

Chuck Wagon?
Posted By: 4th_point Re: County fair food. - 07/29/21
Cotton candy and elephant ears for us, last night. And barley pop for me.

I don't mind paying the high prices to let the kids get their sugar high, and have a treat that we don't make at home.

The sausages on a roll with peppers and onions always get my attention, but the reality is never as good as the smell. Gotta prove it to myself every time though…..

Funnel cakes. Greasy fried dough with sugar is a must.

How did you eat that many clams after 2 burgers? Impressive!
Posted By: wabigoon Re: County fair food. - 07/29/21
The last time I ate cotton candy I got sick.
The Tilt-A-Whirl may have a part in that. laugh

It's hard to beat a pork chop on a stick.

I like em with the powdered sugar. They're also good with pie fillings on top...apple, blueberry or cherry.
Posted By: pullit Re: County fair food. - 07/29/21
anyone ever had deep fried butter? They did a news piece a couple of years ago about it.
Put a wooden stick in the end of a stick of butter, dip it in batter and deep fry it.
Posted By: Morewood Re: County fair food. - 07/29/21
Tacos, corn dogs and cinnamon rolls.

And a medium coke for my flask contents.

About an hour south of Morgantown, WV on I-79 is a town called Fairmont, that has a popular ice cream stand called Dairy Creme Corner. They will make you a delicious funnel cake, pile a mountain of soft serve ice cream on it, and then top it with whatever sundae toppings you want.

It is glorious.

Pizza Fritte, cannoli, porketta sandwiches, potato pancakes, and gnocchi w/meatballs are favorites here.

I should correct the price of the burgers, and water, the burgers were 5 bucks each, the water a dollar.

Live the hot sausages, cheesesteaks and gyros.

I think the magic is cowshitz from the flies,
mixed with Carney sweat and cigarette ashes.

We are not attending the fair up here this year. Usually it's corn dogs and lemonade.

It's pretty common around this part of the midwest. The Nebraska and Iowa Pork Producers Associations usually supply the chops or even operate the booth themselves. The number of those things served at the Iowa state fair is mind blowing.

Around here the county fairs have really good tenderloin sandwiches - pork tenderloin grilled over charcoal, mopped with a spicy vinegar sauce, served on a hamburger bun. People line up for them.

The Iowa State Fair has breaded deep fat fried, butter.
Posted By: flintlocke Re: County fair food. - 07/30/21
There is a sausage making company in Southern OR, Taylor's, that does regional fairs around here, the sausage is good of course...but the big draw is they have a lathe type device that turns big russet baking spuds into curly fries....they cut the fries, and fry them in top quality oil, right before your eyes...biggest draw at the fair...yes, bigger than the beer garden.

The Clay County Fair sell Nutty Bars, Ice cream dipped in hot chocolate rolled in chopped nuts.
Posted By: Teal Re: County fair food. - 07/30/21
I really look forward to roasted corn on the cob mostly.

Funnel cake is good too but for me - it's CotC and looking at tractors. I'll do a lap through the critter barns but otherwise - food, beer, and equipment.

The good places are the ones run by the churches. But the best place is the one that's run by a local butcher shop meat market. They have a country ham sandwich that makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

Used to be a Greek guy that came down from Montucky that made the best gyros I’ve ever had... haven’t seen him in a few years though...
Posted By: rong Re: County fair food. - 07/30/21
Have a friend who has a trailer for deep frying at fairs. Closed his painting biz and travels around .
He does pickles, oreos pb+j all kinds of stuff you wouldn't think would be good deep fried.
He makes serious bank on that junk....

Fried chicken and tenderloin sandwiches. Try to steer clear anymore. Bad as Walmart on a Saturday.

Yep. I haven’t been in 3 years since Mom passed.

I’d always take her to enter her homemade quilts and homemade pies in the contests. She won several events over the years with her entries.

Now the County Fair is over run with fuggin Wetbacks and 400 lb Welfare women covered with tattoos.

Yep. Looking at the new tractors, farm equipment, and Livestock Barns were all that I enjoyed looking at.

What ? Nobody mentioned Deep Fried Cheese Curds ? Why goodness... it's the longest line at the fair....

And I am in that line at least twice... cash in hand.

I love em. None outside your area though.

All time favorites are corn dogs with mustard, lemonade shake ups and sausages with cooked peppers and onions.
A real treat that I’ve only found a couple of times is a slice of pecan pie on a stick and dipped in hot fudge. Wow!

Cheaper than the CO State Fair or Denver Western Stock show.
