Is there an appreciable taste difference between the two? I know there is a big difference between a whole boneless ham and a whole semi boneless (both were purchased from the same butcher shop) with the latter having a better taste. I've always thought it would be interesting to cook one but we don't eat enough ham to justify experimenting.
Any thoughts or experiences?
I like one with a bone and unsliced/non-honey. Those compacted boneless hams are an abomination.
We like the bone kind
Pretty much any meat tastes better cooked bone in.
Bone in ham makes the best lima beens ever.
Bone in. The real deal.
Bone in for us. The bone gets reused in a soup stock. Split pea soup with ham.

Funny you should bring up Split Pea Soup, I made one yesterday, also known as Habitant Soup, a French Canadian Version of the same.

The only seasonings were dried sage, bay leaf, sea salt, pepper, and water delicious!

Not wild about peas but I'd sure try that and probably ask for 2nds. Well done. mb
Hi Magnum_Bob, thanks for the compliment!

I have no doubt you would, it's a tasty famous French Canadian soup, I serve it with BBQ'ed Garlic bread.
