Since no body answered my turtle question I will pop this one out here for total ignoring.
Does any body know how to cook a nutria. I have heard that the cajuns eat them but don't know how they accomplish that. I tried a couple of times but being either stupid or a slow learner the only thing I accomplished was the Godawfullest mess you ever saw.

BCR, -- is that the one where you cook the big rat on a board in the oven, then throw out the rat and eat the board? -- no

Now don't you wish I had ignored it?

My brother and his friend baked a muskrat in a pan full of Campbell's mushroom soup when they were kids. They said at the time that it was awful good. I'm not keen on the idea, but maybe I should try it. I've baked deer steaks with the same method and they come out great.

I bake the deer completely covered by mushroom soup in the oven at 350 degrees for about an hour. I serve it over rice or cous cous. It's great. You could try it with the nutria, after you clean them with Squack's squirrel/rabbit method. Perhaps that will keep the mess down? JustinH

Justin I didn't try mushroom soup but I tried bar-b-q sauce. I tried every way I could think of. When I say mess I mean that it was the awfulest tasteing thing I ever tried to eat.

BCR,
I had to consult my Websters to find out just what a nutria is. They say it is a coypu(South America) or otter. I'm just wondering--Did you run out of backstraps? Or were you the lucky one who happened upon a recent roadkill? LOL! I'm kind of new here--I'll have to go look up your turtle post. Until then, good luck with your rodent!
ps: perhaps remains could be used for bait--don't know what you'd catch!!

First, welcome to the fire Rutnut stick around and have a good time. A nutria is the South American version of a beaver. I have eaten a beaver and they are not too bad just a little oily. I have heard that the cajuns in Louisana eat nutria. God help them if they do.

BCR:
Thanks for the welcome! I've been kind of hangin' around, throwing a few twigs on occasionally. I've noticed some of these folks can really hoist some heavy timber!!! A couple times I'd call it a real live BONFIRE!!
This computer thing is all new to me so I'm just learning--I had to have my wife show me the basics
Before long I might fire up the old Stihl and come to this fire well prepared.!!

As far as the beaver goes, I think someone should consult EMERIL!
