After looking at that apple pie thread a few days, I wanted to make a pie. Did not have enough dough, so I made a tart instead.
Did not have a lemon, so I made a balsamic vinegar solution instead. Granny Smith apples.
Made too many apples to fit in a tart, so I sauteed the rest of 'em, and made an apple topping for icecream. That worked well too. smile
Quote
Apple / Balsamic Tart

4 Granny Smith Apples
half cup sugar
two tsp Cinnamon
two tsp Galangal
1/8 cup Balsamic vinegar
1/8 cup water
2 tbls flour

One pie crust, rolled thin

Peel and cut apples into slices
mix the vinegar and water, pour over the apples
add the sugar, spices and flour. Mix well
Let sit for 15 min.
Arrange the apples on the pie crust. Fold over the edges. Dot with butter, sprinkle with Cinnamon sugar. Bake for 40 or so min at 350F

Damn, Sam. If you hadn't put that dollop of vanilla ice cream on top, I might have been able to resist. smile

Mannlicher, that apple tart really looks fit to eat. My wife wants to make one.

What is "Galangal?"

Thanks.

It's fancy stuff Sam knows about.

Outstanding as always Sam! As I've said before I am not a baker, but my wife loves it and I will pass it to her.

One of my wife's buddies on FB informed me that this is not a 'tart', it is instead, a 'Galette'. I have to defer to her, since she teaches French cooking in a fancy school. smile

Galangal is worth trying. You can get it from Penzys, and once you try it, you will want to use it often. It is sorta like ginger, but better.

I'm getting sick of all of these threads showing me foods that I should cook!

As a fat man, I can't resist something that looks that good and seems that simple.
