Ever had a total failure, a flop, a dish that was bad?

I know I have!!

Too many to count. Some I've fixed the next time and some I've just chalked up to a bad idea and moved on.

Yes, just last week with my marinara sauce. Normally very good but watching TV rather than watching the pot resulted in some severe scorching . Dumped the whole shebang.

Yep. Pretty much like that. Fix it if you can. Otherwise, toss it, scrap idea, move on.

Woke up under a cooker one morning that had a smoldering pig that looked about like that.

I put 28 butts on one night about 9pm to ccok all night in my big cooker.

They were pre-ordered as a money maker for a charity event. (Walk for Life)

Woke up to check on them about 2 am and the rendered grease had ignited.

My grill looked like a cherry red locomotive with fire coming out the stack about 3 feet.

Thank goodness I had it far enough from the house. It was very impressive. lol

Calmed it down with the water hose and went back to bed.

Had to call all those folks and put them off until the next weekend.
I went and replaced the butts on my dime and made it right.

I don't cook for charity much anymore.

Yes,

I tried to make salmon sausages. The spice mix wasn't too bad, but the filler I used produced a consistency was a dead ringer with play-doh.

I made somekind of fish stew once and it tasted like bilge water.

I moved out at 18 yrs old, before I graduated. I burned many round steaks and roast trying to learn how to cook meat rice and gravy. I made sure to teach my kids how to cook so they could eat our staple meal the rest of there life.

There's noting like a good pot roasted round steak with gravy over rice, potato salad and french bread!

no loss really. unless you had to pay money for them

most of my failures involve trying to bake with old baking powder and
my reluctance to throw anything away. i've learned to only use fresh
baking powder and toss it if you can't remember when it was bought
and more important when it was opened.

should also mention that the biggest fail is folks that don't
let charcoal burn down and ash over. been to many a bbq
where i could taste starter fluid. i probably did this myself,
but if i did, it's been a very long time ago.

I just keep adding hot sauce. Tabasco can mask a lot of mistakes.

THIS BIG TIME! I can't stand when I am invited to eat at someone's house and all you taste is lighter fluid! My dad is 74 and still does this - I don't like his BBQ - On that note, I love my Big Green Egg.

That's what beer is for. Drink a few while the coals are getting up to heat.

Sometimes I make the other mistake, let the coals burn down too much and it takes forever to cook.

For the life of me, I can't understand why people still use that Schit??? Quickest way to ruin a ceramic cooker is to squirt that crap in there. Starter cubes, MAPP gas torch, charcoal chimney and newspaper, even rubbing alcohol on a paper towel works without leaving the fowl taste of starter fluid.

MAPP torch is the way to fly

And every now and then something does not turn out as well as I'd have liked, most others still think its great but I'm honest and will call a spade a spade and say I'm not crazy about this or it could have been better

Couple pieces of newspaper and wait 10-15 minutes
