What dishes do you like to bring to the pot lucks?
I personally like to make Hawaiian teriyaki meatballs for Christmas pot lucks.
Creamy broccoli salad with a ton of bacon in it.
Never been to one.
Would a case of beer be acceptable?

I used to be that guy, beer and liquor. Got tired of being the moron that out spent everyone else by a 5-1 margin.
"You enjoying that Anchor Steam Porter Aunt Becky? Your Campbells mushroom soup green bean POS casserole was delightful as always".
Hadn't thought of that.....how about a couple bags of Lay's?
Well men, I was thinkin' of an after church pot luck. I suppose beer would be an original idea.
You should have said it was for the church......definitely Wine.

Oh well why didnt you say so in the first place
FC, I think I get that, and it's not so subtle.
Got to admit, it's pretty clever, though.
Maybe I'll just take a couple loaves, and a few fishes.
I never take anything, since I dont go anymore.
When I did attend, I always looked for the spaghetti hot dish. Love that stuff.
Tuna noodle was always good, and anything with cheese and potatoes.
At a party once and someone made a crab Rangoon dip. I'm guessing it was fried egg roll wrappers for chips. I damn near ate the whole thing. Had a hard time walking away from it. It was guuuud.
fieldgrade you would fit right in on our pot lucks

Could always opt for a mess of pottage.
Meatballs, lasagne, stuffed shells, basically casarol.
They stay hot during the service, and make a good cheap dish.
I usually make pulled pork or brisket. They stay warm in a crock pot with sauce. Bought dinner rolls or buns at SAMS.
I did them all the time for my daughter's band stuff in HS, it was always some of the first stuff to go.
Cheap and easy to make, plus easy to serve.
I love potlucks, as I love to have a choice as to a variety of foods. But, I'm also someone who just won't eat anyone's cooking, so I usually try to find out who brought what. We used to have a guy that fished a lot, and would always bring fish. I can't say as I have a favorite, but I love fried chicken, potato salad, green bean casserole, and spaghetti dishes.
You should have said it was for the church......definitely Wine.
Them would be Catlick potlucks. Wine and bingo is always on the menu.
haluski. cheap, easy, filling and popular. around here anyway.
A lay out of Italian meats and cheeses with thin slices of sourdough.

i love cabbage rolls. i make about 10 dozen at a clip and freeze them. even easier though is to use all the same ingredients and make it like a lasagna. cabbage, meat, soup, cabbage, meat, soup and so on. tastes just like halupki but a lot less effort.
i'm sure this will come as a big surprise to many of you, but my baked beans are the only reason i get invited to anything

My wife makes that casserole.
Funny how we had to go around the mountain to end up with a quick, easy, cheap,
potluck suggestion.
I do have a plan. I'll try to post pictures when the dishes are done.
Make something off the wall different, if nobody tries it your set for a week of lunches...
If the church basement ladies like it you get elected president of the church council....
Chili Relleno casserole with chicken, It's easy and more suits my taste buds than Plain on Plain with a little bland tossed in.
Our little church has an eating meeting every Wednesday night. My wife and I take turns making different dishes and desserts. Tonight I made what I'm calling a Mexican Chicken Salad casserole and the wife made a couple of coconut pies. We both brought home empty dishes.
One of my favorite places to look for ideas of food to take is here: "
Deep South Dish: Recipes for Potlucks Church Socials Picnics Lots of good easy and tasty recipes and ideas.
Spam, sailor boy crackers and cheese in a can.. yep I'm the life of the pot luck parties
At many potlucks, you'll find four simple salads, three crockpots of beans, four trays of cheesy potatoes, and two dozen cakes. Don't bring those.
Nobody ever brings meat (although sometimes that's the sponsor-supplied item). I often smoke a turkey breast or a pair of roaster chickens. Cluadia makes a killer fruit salad and together we get invited EVERYwhere. Had one at a private home last week where I provided Bloody Marys (four kinds) and Claudia made her fruit salad. Already have two more invites.
i avoid ‘em like the plague
Ham & Beans with Cornbread Casserole.
Chicken & Dumplings.
Manicotti, both beef and cheese, with a couple of different sauces to go on them.
Lasagna, beef, cheese, and hot Italian sausage, with a couple of difference sauces to go on them.
I like to make a breakfast scramble. Saute up onions, bellpeppers, mushrooms and chorizo or breakfast sausage. Put on a plate. Scramble 18 eggs. When the eggs are done mix in vegis and sausage. Put in a caserole dish and top with a healthy portion of grated cheese.
I've never brought leftovers home.

Where do you find cabbages that actually have loose leaves?
Core the heads, and steam them.
The leaves peel off without breaking.

Sounds good - will it even work with those tight little cannonballs that we get for cabbages around here?
It should.
We try to buy big heads.
Just asked the head cook.
She said sometimes the leaves on those are interwoven and hard to get apart.
Try it. If it doesn't work,
Chop it up,
Soften some chopped onions in butter and a little olive oil,
Add the cabbage, get it to start to carmelize a bit, add cooked haluski noodles.
Salt, pepper till your happy. Some add caraway.
If you already make haluski, sorry.
Funny how this keep happening.
Haluski, and if you aren't a too dang tight,
Cook some kielbasa and add it.
Or make it as a casserole
My wife brought home a nice head of cabbage we made Coleslaw for Thanksgiving, to go with the brisket. Loose, and green.

so heres a little trick. i buy the biggest cabbages i can find in the fall. the IGA near my camp has huge ones for a buck each. you might need to hit a farmers market and pay a premium though. i then take the cabbages and wrap them in freezer paper and stick them in the freezer for at least several weeks and up to 6 months. then take them out and put them in a pot of water and heat them until almost boiling. shut it down and just let it sit. the leaves peel themselves. the outside ones are usually no good but the others peel real easy.

Got plenty of water to change into wine as well?
Coffee, and water John. If any water got changed, it was done quietly, everyone was well behaved. Well, except me of course.
