I usually just eat them right out of the can for a quick bite while I'm working.Would like to hear any ideas for recipes, or any other way to eat them. I heard they go great on a homemade pizza but I'm not a big fan of pizza. Any creative ideas? How do you guys eat them?

Ohooooo, Smoked oysters.

Cracker with some crystal hot sauce. Or a cracker with some other hot sauce. Or just dump so.e hot sauce in the can of oysters and forgo the cracker. Drain all of the oil off first. Not the star of the dish but can be a substitute in gumbo when fresh shucked oysters ain't around

Out of the shell.

Never had the pleasure of a canned oyster.

Toothpick and a cracker is the only way I've ever eaten them

Are there canned smoked oysters that are not farmed chinee oysters? That's the only kind I find here.

Not that I'm aware of.

I'm far from a food snob like the potted meat/spam haters here but I do shy away from any kind of fish/shell fish that was farmed in Chinaland.

Toothpick and hot sauce.

Not good on pizza. I've tried it.

Anchovies and artichoke hearts on the other hand....

Haven't had them in decades. Thanks for the reminder.

Same here. Not to say I haven't or won't eat my share of canned oysters, but ya gotta figure most of that farmed shellfish coming out of SEA was raised in sewage ditches.

I usually steer clear.

Fortunate that I have fresh oysters available and smoke my own, along with steaming, on da half shell etc. as for the Asian farmed crap, I also look for domestic shrimp.
Posted By: FieldGrade Re: Smoked oysters. - 01/27/19
According to this guy the safest ones come from Canada.

The funny part is the ones from WA (the land of liberal tree and bunny huggers) aren't much better than those from Chinaland or Korea..

I prefer them raw out of the shell. Green hab hot sauce and a squeeze of lime.
Canned on a cracker, maybe a squeeze of brown mustard. Can’t think of any recipe they would be good in.

Cracker
Lay down base of soft stinky cheese
Slice of good salami
Smoked oyster

Now, THAT'S living!

I alwayz keep a couple of cans in the pantry at home and at deer camp. I eat them with ctackers and either hot sauce or brown mustard.

Used to keep a can in backpack while hunting for lunch till a few years ago while hunting in Colorado I must of got some bad ones and made me sick. Haven't wanted any since.

Wifey started eating hummus, I'd never seen the stuff and only time I'd heard of it was on an episode of Seinfeld. Anyway i love smoked oysters (Reese brand is the best I've had), I decide I like the hummus too now, so 2-3 times a week now my lunches are salitnes, slice of cheese, dollup of roasted red pepper hummus or the supremely spicy hummus, and a smoked oyster on top.

Pretty much my story as well!

After buying store-bought hummus for quite a while, I make my own - and it is fast! 5 minutes fast (and very healthy too!).

5 minute Hummas recipe

I change the 1.5 tablespoons of tahini to about 2.5 or 3 tablespoons.

While we prefer raw & fresh, we do eat 'em !

Thin slice of baguette, schemer of cream cheese, a bread n butter pickle slice & top with smoked oyster.

Great snack.

Doesn't compare to these though;

We do what's called a red rooster. Saltine and oyster and pickled jalapeno slice and hot horseradish and hot sauce on top. Clear your head sinuses for sure.

I do the same John. But I experiment once in awhile by adding something like mint or rosemary. I've come up with a few good batches. Surprised myself.

Brought back 3 coolers full from the gulf coast here in Tx a couple of years ago and we had em every way you can think of, but my wife made me a breakfast I miss. Egg scramble with fresh oysters, green onions, mushrooms, and some type of cheese. It was really delicious.

I like oysters fried, and cooked in a casserole. Only tried the smoked ones once and didn't care for them. Wouldn't touch them raw, as I don't eat any kind of raw seafood.

Tried two of them on the half shell once. One with nothing and another dipped in cocktail sauce, sauce wouldn't even stick to the slimy little bastard.

Sure couldn't see what the fuss was. Tasted like a big salty fugging wad of snot. Not my cup of tea for sure.

My dad loves the raw little bastards.
