I smushed em up in soup when I was a kid because that's what my parents did but I quit somewhere along the way.
In chilli only.
Crushed up fine, no soggy, nasty sponge for me.
If the chilli is nice and thick to start, no quackers
Only if it's too thin to start.
Crackers for chili. Stacy's sea salt pita chips for everything else.
Busted up in soup (especially chili - goes well with the beans).
No crackers in my soup, but I'll crumble up saltines in my chili.

Croutons
Yeah, but there is such a wide range of quality with croutons. Most of them are too large as well.
A Club cracker is the same....every time.
What about those little tortilla strips?
Wrong flavor for my salad.
Broken up saltines in soup and chili, but oyster crackers in oyster stew strangely enough. The trick is in breaking saltines down to just the right size, small enough to be easy to handle but not mushy crumbs. And brand matters bigly.
Wrong flavor for my salad.
Sun flower kernels?
Those are good by themselves.
Too big on a salad.
Croutons, not crumbtons.
I like em about the size of a sugar cube.
Like the ones the lunch lady used to dole out on chef salad day.
Lance Captain Wafers are tasty. Buttery and slightly sweet, they are great with a salad. For chili and soup I like plain old Zesta saltines.

Donāt understand putting bakery items on a salad, (ir)regardless wether itās stale bread or crackers. Leaf lettuce stored in a humidifier manner works fine for a lettuce salad, but seldom do that plain.
I like carrots sliced thin on a diagonal, broccoli, and cauliflower. Theyāre crunchy.
