Ha! Thats the old chair we got from Grandma when she died.
Thats for sitting in the kitchen.
This is my current chair. Fresh from the dumps where the old woman picked it up.
True story. She came home and said she found a chair at the dumps. I says to her go back and get it if it was any good.
Smelled like cabbage and carpet powder for the first year.
Amazing what people will throw away......

Fair point. I traded a dumpster chair for a Ruger Super Black Hawk Hunter. I needed a new chair. Bout an even trade....chairs are expensive. I still dont have my Black Hawk.........
A spicy garlic dill spear, a few pepperoncinis and a couple of hot yellow wax peppers. Maybe a slice of salami or mortadella.

While I should be posting about chicken feet or chopped liver, I gotta tell you about what I threw away about a year ago. My parents lived in the house I grew up in for about 45 years, but a few years back they had to move to an assisted living type place due to age, injury and mental issues. My dad was a world class hoarder, which was compounded by the fact that he grew up in the family business of second hand furniture. To him, everything had a potential value and I'm not kidding, he would not throw a thing out, from plastic bags to empty pickle jars to every dang piece of clothing and furniture he ever owned.
Most of their stuff was able to fit into their assisted living unit/garage space, but last year their condition deteriorated and they went into nursing. So everything other than a few small things (old records and record player and a cabinet) went into storage, and then we started to throw things out recently. We've gone through three full size dumpsters and still have a ton of crap to get rid of. Lots of people see their old furniture and say it must be valuable, but I'm tired of moving furniture from one storage place to another and no one would actually buy the crap my parents had. So off to the dumps it goes.
I laugh at shows like Storage Wars, where the people assign ridiculous values to worthless stuff ("Oh, this broken side table with weird stains is a $20 bill all day long"). If that were true, my parents would have a huge roll of cash. They don't.

"smelled like cabbage and carpet powder"... anyone who thinks poetry is a lost art in America has yet to read Large James. His prose and Huntsmans22's art humbles most of the modern masters.

Been shoppin at Trader Joes before the first millennial was ever born. That said very few items I get from there anymore. I do get a hankering for their pfeffernusse every Christmas though. Also two buck chuck every now and again. You are right about the Daughters though. Especially the college one that got me stumbling drunk a few weekends back.
one Christmas when the kids were in college didn't know what to get them, so i went to a Trader Joe's (only two in the region), first time ever, started grabbing two of all kinds of stuff, threw it in boxes, wrapped it up. they loved it
Beverly Hillbillies would be more appropriate. 😜
To be fair to Jim, when we were kids, we called our parents the Beverly Hillbillies 🤠

Root beer float a scoops vanilla ice cream, Mug root beer, long handled desert spoon.
Richard - an Angus man should use chocolate ice cream and make it a black cow.
Water melon, room temperature.
Salt on watermelon, pepper on cantaloupe.
That sounds good. When we were growing up our mom would split a cantaloupe fresh from the garden, clean it out and drop a big scoop of vanilla ice cream in the center. Hand me and my brother a couple of spoons and we were good for a while under the ONLY big oak tree.

Salt on watermelon, pepper on cantaloupe.
Our church always had a 4th of July picnic - noon meal was potluck, activities in the afternoon, along with a concession stand. Watermelons and cantaloupes floating in a stock tank full of water with big chunks of ice floating in it as well. Bottles upon bottles of pop sitting in the tank as well. Huge, insulated canvas bags with vanilla ice cream in them that stayed hard all afternoon. Dad would always have a half cantaloupe with ice cream. Also had a men versus boys softball game. I played center field standing in Dave and Mabel's garden.
all you screwballs who want to put seasoning on fruit...go back upstairs, they lookin for ya
Don't know anything about salt &/or pepper on fruit.
However, if you want a refreshing & different salad, try watermelon balls, marinated in a little Tabasco sauce, & served with toasted seeds & crumbled feta cheese.

Now I can't stop thinking of dim sum !!!!
out of curiosity where have you had dim sum...?
Australia, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver.
Last time in Toronto;
cool, reason i asked is that is not something you might find in hobunk NW Ont
Hey Paul that looks like my favorite DimSum restaurant. Me thinks all North American Chinese restaurants have the same decorator.🤣
Ok here you go gents. They aren't as good as the fresh stuff but they are damn good with a cold beer in the backyard.
I add my own soy sauce and chili garlic sauce. The sauce that comes with the dumplings tastes like your average Chinese restaurant potsticker sauce. I save it, because i'm a cheap bastard, to use while cooking.
Yes from Costco as Ed pointed out.
cool, reason i asked is that is not something you might find in hobunk NW Ont
Yeah Mate, you got that right.
Even the 2 Chinese restaurants here, are not real Chinese !
Cheers Mate, Just been to Costco, have to be next trip ! Incidently, just for S&G, last trip was over $1100 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

smart move, will give you time to decide what sides to have with it
We used to eat great dim sum when we lived in Calgary and Brisbane. The former in "China Town" with the latter in a "mall" as malls go in Brisbane. Can't recall the names. Of course, in the earlier days it was San Francisco...

This is true. Last time I had it was when bride and I were visiting friends in Los Angeles. Probably 15 years ago.
Ed, did you ever go to China Town, in Fortitude Valley ? Other side of the city from where you lived, but well worth it. Amazing, authentic food. Oh my, the Peking Duck !

dollar forty-nine of sheer delight...
Still got fresh maters !
quesadilla, pulled pork, sauteed red onion and jalapeño, monterey jack, served with store bought 'Open Pit' bbq sauce...
toast, avocado, poached egg (let it go a bit long because i didn't want it drippin all over), chopped seeded roma tomato, EVOO, kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, parsley, everything bagel seasoning (which i love, McCormick's not Trader Joe's, which is double the price whether i got it on amazon, or drive 20 miles to buy)...
Nice !! Off topic, but I think I remember you making homemade pasta, still doing it ?
yes, but i usually do that when the weather turns cooler, it helps the pasta dry out well. wouldn't want to do it in the heat/humidity. i'll be starting up again soon.
That's a tasty looking unique combo I haven't seen before. Now I have to get me some of that everything topping.
it seems every time i go to Panera's or Einstein's, or a NY style bagel place i gravitate toward the 'everything bagel'...used to be strictly sesame seed...but those are my go-to...everything bagel seasoning is great, and there are recipes out there to make it at home, 4 ingredients
As a District Manager for Target Corp back in the mid 90's I'd eat a Noah's Everything or Onion Bagel two or three days a week traveling between stores. Tomato basil as well.

Again, the dissenting voice as I don't care for them, but a question does arise: if the baker failed to use the fork to score them, would lightning suddenly strike him/her down on the spot?

will u ever explain what vegemite is
Vegemite is a thick, dark brown Australian food spread made from leftover brewers' yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives.
Son brought some home from Australia, it must be an acguired taste.
Pretty good description Chris ! & yes, definitely an acquired taste. Vegemite is to Australian kids, what peanut butter is to you folk. But way healthier.
Some band back in the 80's sang about the dang stuff. Folks over here had to look it up to find out what thehell they were singin' about.
The other day I put a pic of the lemon meringue pie the wife made in the cake thread. It was big enough we brought three slices over for our neighbors. One one of my wife's nicer plates. (She says it's just a plate..............I prefer that Corelle stuff I can't break)
So today, I'm out back doing stuff, cause it was sunny and 55F and I could, and come in and my wife tells me the plate was returned. With a small load of jalapeno poppers!
I texted my neighbor and said I wasn't sure who got the best end of that deal!
I think I needed to stand back a bit, this cheeseball phone has a crappy camera for closeups.

But who cares about healthy when you are a kid.

New_2_99s I will have to say even your snacks are a step or two above! You eat well. I have to find some of that Vegemite, just to taste. Lutefisk also. A mere taste of either is likely MORE than enough from all that I have read!
Chocolate milk shake, sort of.
What has puzzled me since childhood is that chunk of meat that is always on the table that has a cylindrical bone running through its center.
John, as a wee lad I tried a Dagwood sandwich, back then,----------well, I waz younger.
