Very nice. How far, what equipment?
Posted By: Royce Re: Bighorn ram - 01/06/14
I walked up to within 75 yards of these sheep, slowly and stood still. For whatever reason, they had no fear at of of me and almost walked over me as they were grazing. I was probably 35 feet from this guy. Using a canon 50D and Sigma 150 to 500 lens

I walked up to within about 85 yards of this one and liked it so well I shot it...

No, but he tasted pretty good...

I've shot three sheep, with ewe tags- How good they taste is not lost on me-

Yes. There are times that one seems to get into their back pocket and they don't care.

I especially like the critters that have those brighter eyes. Seems to bring a bit more life into their images. Good job all around here.

Great pics !!

But once you hunt & tag one....they are really in your blood !
Posted By: 1minute Re: Bighorn ram - 01/08/14
Sadly, we're only allowed one tag in our liftime here in Oregon. At the rate I'm going so far, it might just be 1 tag in two lifetimes.

I've developed a bad case of sheep fever....I can't wait to get my hands on a ram permit. It should only take about another 13 years to do it in Colorado.

That was great fun. Nice pics.

Tanner if you have 3 points it could be this year. It really is pretty random after first 3 years. Go archery.
Posted By: jimdgc Re: Bighorn ram - 01/11/14
What are you doing to that blindfolded sheep? I've heard of using rubber boots to stick their back legs in, but never a blindfold.
Posted By: Tanner Re: Bighorn ram - 01/12/14
All my apps are turning to archery, Kurt!

These sheep were being transplanted. Blindfolds help calm them down when they were being hobbled and during blood work/sedation/ear tagging.

Sorry for the hijack smile

Utah DWR is very active recently with Bighorn Sheep relocations

Another recent transplant was 49 sheep from Nevada to Grand

Staircase National Monument...(Clinton's Park)

Toad, that ram in your top picture really is a toad. Whole lot of mass all the way down!
