On this forum the question "How do I post my photos?" comes up quite often. As a result, I thought that I would outline the basic procedure and have it made into a sticky at the top of the forum. I will base my directions on the use of a Photobucket account since it is free and fairly popular.
1) Enroll on a free photo hosting website to upload pictures to. Most people use photobucket since it is free and easy to use so my directions are based on them.
2) Once you have your Photobucket membership, upload photos to the site from your computer. Do this by clicking the "Browse" button near the center of your screen. This will bring up a window you use to find the pictures you want to upload. (Typically pictures are stored under C:\...\My Documents\My Pictures, but it could be different on each computer). Double-click on the image file that you want to upload. You will see the file address show up in the "Picture" dialog box beside the "Browse" button you just used. Now click "Submit" just below the dialog box. Your pictures will be sent to your photobucket account. It may take some time depending on the size of the image file. If you have more than one image to upload at a time, click the expand arrow (the little "down" arrowhead button) on the "Submit Multiple Pictures" dialog box and select the number of images you want to upload. Follow the same steps for each image as outlined above.
3) Now your images should appear near the bottom of the page. They will be thumbnails that you can double-click on to expand to full size if you want. Underneath each image there will be three dialogue boxes (A Url, a Tag, and an Img box) with text in them. For the purposes of posting a picture here you will only be concerned with the "Img" line. (The URL line can be used in your profile to submit a picture for your avatar, but I am not going to get into that here.)
4) Single click on the IMG text in the "Img" dialogue box. This should highlight the text. Copy this text (Either by using Ctrl+C or right clicking and selecting "Copy").
5) Paste what you have copied into your post here. It should show a [IMG] at the begining and the end of the line you pasted. Make sure that there is a space between your post text and the [IMG]'s (no spaces in the part you pasted, just between what you pasted and the text of your post).
6) Finish off your post and preview it. Make sure the photo is there and then submit your post. If the photo is not there, check your pasted link to make sure you didn't miss a bracket somewhere or inadvertently put a space in the line somewhere.
That should be it. I hope to see all of your great pictures soon!

Thanks for the work! I made a few minor changes... hope you do not find them too heinous...
Would add the magic trick to prevent the photo from showing up too wide and making everybody scroll back and forth is done before the picture is posted to photobucket.
Resize the photo to 760 pixels and it will be optimized for the net.

Thanks SD. I actually couldn't really tell where you changed anything. I forgot to put the part about resizing them in there. That's a good point. It will also save time when uploading the pictures. Especially if you are uploading multiple pictures and they are large.
SS
Thanks for putting this up. Even I was able (finally) to figure out how to post a photo.

I appreciate your instructions but I got lost after item 4. Must be half-heimers. Once I click on open do I close Photobucket? How do I bring up photo on my post? Do I click on the inage code & type in the user prompt or type in the text? Neither seems to work. Hunting is easier than using computers for us old farts. Thanks.

Usually what I do is open my web browser twice, one for photobucket and one for this site. What you want to do is copy all the text that is in the IMG text box under the photo you just uploaded to photobucket and paste it directly into your post here.
SS
Much thanks to both Sam Steele & Elf for assistance in posting photos. Its always nice to know that assistance on the Campfire is available.
Way to Go I knew you'd figure it out. Now just another tip..Don't delete from Photobucket unless you don't want us to view your pics anymore. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Thanks again, Elf. Good hunting.
Nice kitties.
You still don't have the photo posting quite right, though. You have those image brackets before and after the pic. Your post should look like this except without the spaces:
[img] photoaddress.jpg [/img]
If you use the Instant UBB image code below the post window, just past in the address, don't type in the [image].
Dick
Some of these are not crisp and clear but you'll get the basic idea.
1st of all..Got your pictures uploaded to your computer? Great then lets see if this adds to the help already listed above.
Everybody uses a diff program but it's all the same basic principle.
Start off with resizing..I use the microsoft image resizer.
Open your pictures folder
Right click on the image you want to upload to 'Photobucket' or picture hosting site of your choice.
pick the option of resize and then
I usually choose the top option. Ok now you download them to your photobucket site(or the one of your choice). All set on to the next step of posting them at the Campfire. Remember this is Elf's way and in no way shape or form am I saying it's the best way it just works for me.
So we bring up the post that we want to add pictures to. It should look like this..
I pick Image from these choices
From my photobucket site I pick this. Click on highlight, right click and pick copy.
back to the post and fill in this box with the picture you just copied from photobucket. Right click to paste.
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/cavscoutmom/howtopost/Untitled-Scanned-05Small.jpg[/img]
Should now look like this
[img]
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/cavscoutmom/howtopost/Untitled-Scanned-06Small.jpg[/img]
click ok and it appears on your page as this
[img]
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/cavscoutmom/howtopost/Untitled-Scanned-09Small.jpg[/img]
Preview your post and you can then tell if it worked ok for you. Not liking it then you can try again.
Elf
How dare you? You just took away everbody's last excuse for not posting pictures!
Thanks for adding this!
art
Elf,
You can also just copy the "Image" line from photobucket and paste it directly into the message. That saves you having to use the "Image" button and copy the "HTML" line into that box. The end result is the same, just saves a couple of steps.
SS
Yes thanks Sam. It was kind of a very bare bones picture by picture thing when folks get the hang of the basics they can then fool around with the posting thing and do what they feel comfortable with. AS I know from experience "SOME" and I don't mean all guys only see the top line of anything when it comes to instructions. Kinda why I went with that step. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
No worries. There's more than one way to post a picture... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I think it works!
This is way too complicated! Its not even in English! Why can't we just send a email pic to 24HRCampfire?
Well I got to step 5 but nothing happens when I rt. click copy.
How do you make the link from photobucket to 24hr? Way too complicated! Sam left out some steps.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, I'm not an English major. What did you expect? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Seriously, I posted every step that I do. In step 5 what you want to do is copy the image line from the photobucket site (underneath the picture you uploaded) and paste that line into the post that you are making here. It should paste here exactly like it is in the "image" text box on photobucket. YOU WON'T SEE YOUR PICTURE UNTIL YOU PREVIEW YOUR POST. I think a lot of people expect to see it immediately. Paste the line in there, finish your post and preview it. If your picture is already on photobucket, it is a simple copy and paste deal. Takes me about 2 seconds to post a picture if it's already uploaded.
If you have specific questions, pm me and I'll try to help.
SS
We had a thought here on why he's having a problem maybe...
The line to copy under the photobucket image Must be highlighted in order for it to be copied and pasted.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate your post.
Elf, and/or everyone in the know, I'm trying to get my images into Photobucket. After I tap "browse," double click on the images on my harddrive (zoombrowser ex), and hit the "upload" button on Photobucket, I get this message:
"The file "deImg110.dll" does not have a valid image extension.
Valid image extensions are: gif, jpg, jpeg, png, bmp, swf."
How do I add said "image extensions?"
I don't know how much this matters, but FWIW, I'm using Windows XP home ed, and the software that I downloaded with my new Canon blaster (zoombrowser ex 5.6 and EOS Untility 1.0). My Photobucket account is the basic free one.
A frustrated thanks in advance,
222
BTW, I was able to forward one of my photos to a pard's email via the "email images" feature on zoombrowser. I assume that he had to click on an attachment, but at least the image made it to his house.
Baby steps......
okkkkk..so your saving them after you open them but before you upload? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
You need to save it as .jpg, jpeg etc when the option to 'save photo as' pops up. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
I guess that what I did-------------not real sure. I plugged in my new blaster to my 'puter, downloaded the images, and it saved them. I also made a copy to disk.
Since my last question, I've also downloaded Picasa2 in case that makes life easier. So far, just more options.
Does Playschool make a 5 button computer for guys like me?
222
It sounds like the file extension (*.dll) is for your Canon program. When you open the picture on your computer click "Save as" under the file tab. It should give you the option of changing the file name and under that there should be a box for the file type. Change that to a .jpg or any of those listed in your post and save it. Then you should be good to go for uploading.
SS

Lets try this with a photo of my sons first buck this year, a nice Illinois 7-point. Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it......Nick
Well, I edited post and this time I clicked on the "IMAGE" spot where you preview your post and pasted the IMG line in there and it worked, but you see the [Image] on each side. Originally I just pasted the IMG line at the top of my post and all it did was show the text when I previewed it.I'm happy I got this far and this should work ok, but it seems I'm missing something. Am I?
Sounds like you might have had a bracket or something missing your first time around. Maybe you missed one when you highlighted it to copy? You shouldn't have to use the "IMAGE" button when you post. Just copy the whole IMG tag line from Photobucket and paste it in your post. The reason you have the [img]/[/img] on either side is because they are already in the tag line you copied so in essence you have two of them. Only one set is needed, so the other just turns into text on either side of your picture.
SS
You were right , I just posted a picture in the classifieds for some ammo and it came out great. When I first tried the picture of my sons deer I had to drag mouse across IMG line so I bet I cut off the front bract or something. When I tried again,I clicked on line and it all highlighted, then I just pasted into post and it worked. Thank you so much for the help. Now I can back-up my BS with pictures (sometimes) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Say again? that must be new, I've never heard of putting an email address in photobucket to send pictures....
If posting pictures here is what you're trying to do, it's quite simple, just copy/paste the IMG Code from under the picture, directly into a post.
When you click on "share" above your down loaded pictures it opens to an area which allows you to put in email addresses I down loaded my address book so i don't even have to memorize the addresses. It allows you to post to facebook or my space, too etc. So easy for us oldsters that can't cut, paste, move, minimalize, and move, in order to share our pictures.

Help,
I'm having problems uploading photos from my hard drive to Photobucket. The pix I posted above was uploaded to Photobucket from my old Windows 98 computer. Huntinhard,
Just a friendly suggestion. I see you are using photobucket. If you select a smaller mp size before you download, it won't be too large for the screen, making users have to scroll back and forth. Since I use a laptop, my screen is smaller, so others might not be experiencing the same problem I am.

So how do you post videos from Photobucket without sharing your album?
I have the same problem as KK. It seems weird that you can post the link, just as with photos, but then the viewer is able to see your whole album. If you post a single video in an album, it still gives the viewer the options to edit, etc, or so it seems...
I posted one to another page once but I created a new album with just that one video in there. It gave me the edit options too. I did view it on an unfamiliar computer and it did not give me the options.

test
I don't see any clear response just HOW to post photos.
An easy means would be great, for us computer semi-literates.
Here's how I do it.
1. Go to Photobucket and set up an account.
2. Download the Photobucket app for your smartphone. This app will automatically upload every photo you take to your Photobucket account online. Saves a lot of time, no need to tranfer photos to your computer and then upload.
3. To put the photo in your post, simply go to your Photobucket account and click on the photo you want to post. This enlarges the photo and gives you a list of options on the right side of the screen. The bottom option is IMG code. Click on this and it will say copied. Go back to your post, right click your mouse, in the drop down menu click on paste. Click on Preview Reply button beneath the reply box and it should show your photo in the post.

Try not to use such a bright background when photographing very dark objects, as many cameras will badly under-expose.

Did this work?
[img]http://rs1105.pbsrc.com/albums/h346/stevemonday3/100_2312.jpg~320x480[/img]
[img]http://rs1105.pbsrc.com/albums/h346/stevemonday3/100_2312.jpg~320x480[/img]
Looking at your html command above I can see your problem why it doesn't display the image.
the [/img] command must be immediately after the last letter in the file type called .jpg. However, somehow the additional numbers about the file size (320x480) got inserted in there also.
I'm going to highlight and then "copy" the entire command listed above but put the [/img] bracket right after jpg immediately below. Don't forget, there can be no spaces in the link address between the first and ending bracketed HTML commands too or it won't show.
Keep in mind that when I paste the thus corrected link you will not be able to "see" the link command, for it will instead show you the intended photo! Here goes . . .
Oh well, it WOULD have worked, but the photo is no longer at its address. Hope this helps!
OK, I'll show you how to use the HTML command even if the normal method does not work. I use this command a lot on another forum that seems to have trouble inserting photos the "normal" way.
I first type out the initial command that starts and ends with brackets as such:
Then, with no spaces after the end bracket, I paste my photo link like this, and then add the end command bracket immediately after the g on jpg. NOTE, IN THIS EXAMPLE I'M LEAVING A SPACE RIGHT AFTER THE jpg . . . so the image will NOT display:
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5518/12146450023_5d3e141075_h.jpg [/img]
As you can see, the correct HTML command MUST have no spaces, or the image won't show, just the botched command so you can see and edit the error.
Now I'll paste the identical command from just above, but remove that error space after jpg so the end command bracket touches the "g" . . . and voila . . . the image appears! Hope this helps!
Another way you can do the HTML command is the type the open and end command together, with no spaces between them, and then "paste the photo link between the open and end command brackets.
Here's what THAT looks like: [img][/img]
Once you remember how this looks, you might not every try to insert a photo any other way again. Don't forget though, you MUST have the photo hosted somewhere online with an http or https address that ends with the photo file name type such as jpg, png, etc.
Now with some sub-script: 7MM-08 riflehttp://s1300.photobucket.com/user/cpdoty/media/DSC00340_zpscecc3b1c.jpg.html?sort=3&o=9
One more timehttp://s1300.photobucket.com/user/cpdoty/media/DSC00340_zpscecc3b1c.jpg.html?sort=3&o=9
You must first open the image in photobucket. Then click on the "IMG" tab. Paste that directly into the Campfire post window.
One might right click on the Img tag and make sure it's "copied". Then paste it into ones thread.

Photobucket seems to have just spazzed out the last few days. Anyone have an Imgur protocol for posting pics?
Thanks for the information it really helped.
Hey all. I just posted another way of putting photos on here using Flickr instead of Photobucket. Hope it helps those with questions.

There's two ways to get an avatar.
1) Upload your avatar (Your image must be smaller than 80x80 pixels; .gif, .jpg, .png accepted)
2) URL to your avatar (Your image must be smaller than 80x80 pixels; .gif, .jpg, .png accepted)
#1 uploads straight from your computer. #2 is used for linking to photobucket.
Thanks FH, but I'm still having problems.
Every picture I attempt to use is over 100000 bytes it says.
I don't know how to reduce the size of my original picture to get within range????
-Ken
PS. I also have a photo bucket account, but all pictures there are too large also.

I can resize a pic for you (it would be the easiest way to go) but I can't contact you via PM. I get this message "This user is not accepting private messages."

Why isn't this working ?!?!
How about youtube videos. Had a video from a trailcam I converted to gif and imported into photobucket. Works here but choppy, at least at my internet speed. Was thinking you tube would be better.
First 10 shots from my new AR
I am stuck.. I have my photos in Photobucket.. It has worked fine until a day or so ago.. I cannot get my photos to post.. When I hit the copy line, the arrow goes away, and it doesn't respond...
I tried the suggestions on photobucket and got nothing.. Tried Flickr, got the photo in the system, but couldn't figure away to post..
I will try the last thing I know of in Photobucket to get a photo to post and send it here to see if it works.. Any help would be appreciated..
A test:
I am back.. This is usually what happens when I try to post with the Ctrl a+ C..

It worked here.
You just click on the image in PB; then click the bottom button to the right of the photo page that comes up; then paste it here.
Any help would be appreciated..
I haven't been reading the pages before this, so I might be redundant.
The way I do it from Photobucket is:
Click on Library on the top bar and get your pictures on the screen.
Find the picture you want to post and hold the courser on top of that picture. 3 little white lines will appear in the top left corner of the pic. Hold your courser on top of the white lines.
A drop down box will appear that says, "Share, Move, Edit, Copy, Delete".
Click on "Share".
A big white box will appear. On the right side you'll have a box that says "Photo Links". Inside that box will be smaller boxes. Click on the bottom box that says "IMG".
The IMG box will turn yellow for a second and say "Copied".
Go back to the Fire posting box and RIGHT click on the courser and click "paste". A whole bunch of code will be in the posting box. That's your picture in computer code. Click submit and wala.
Here....let me demonstrate.
Thanks guys.. I will try this..
Well, I have it a try.. But no luck.. when I click on the copy nothing happens, and the library comes up, up the site remains on upload.. I guess I will fool with it some more or try and find and easier place to post my pic.s from..
It worked like a charm of several years.. Thanks for the help!!
Read these instructions again, slowly.
pal, I have.. There is something not working.. Sometimes a photo copies, sometimes not..
There are only three steps:
1--click on the image; a page comes up.
2--click on the lowest button to the right of the image (says IMG)
3--press ctrl V when the cursor is over the place you want it to appear.
pal, I just did that.. In that order let us see what I get:
s1053.photobucket.com
Until a day or so ago, I worked like a charm.. Now, I can't get it to print or copy.. Will try one more time.. I think something is screwed up in Photobucket.. I thank you for trying to help.. It is irritating to have something work so well then nothing.. I appreciate your efforts..
You are left clicking the IMG button?
pal, we went to supper and just got back.. Yes, I am.. I have posted quite a few photos, without a hitch. Now it is only a rare chance I can get things to work right and get a post.. As far as help from Photobucket, it would be easier to see Obummer than get help from them.. Thanks for the help!! I think or hope what ever screwed up will come around in a few days..
I don't know what your doing wrong but it works for me.
Left click on "img" it turns yellow and says copied.
then post here.
jimy, I just posted one with my dogs and .44 spl. tried to do it again, and it would post.. Go figure.. I should have you do my posts for me!!! thanks!!
I should have said would not post!!
Nice bunnies by the way.
After you copy, left click here, and click paste.
Nice work jimy.. Just tried one with my model 29 no luck.. It wasn't in the Library but under recent posts.. They decided to move all those photos from the Library to recent posts.. They were all in the library yesterday.. Who knows, but you do a fine job of posting the pic.s ,, Thanks for the comment.. We had lots of fun.. Thanks for trying to help.. I am going to check out the forums, and call it a night.. Have a good one and thanks..
I love this one!
Mine likes fishing as much as bird hunting.
...It wasn't in the Library but under recent posts.. They decided to move all those photos from the Library to recent posts.. They were all in the library yesterday...
You must first go to the library to click on the photo you want to select.
ice photos there jimy, it is still screwed up..
pal, I have follow all the plans laid out for posting.. There are a couple.. the only one that works SOMETIMES is using the Ctrl + C.. I just tried it with the model 29 photo no dice.. It works about once in 20 tries.. I am sure something in the photob. is screwed up.. But have not clue how to fix it..
Tried Flickr, but really didn't work much with it..
PB worked super for all the time I posted.. Maybe something will change..
Did you check your privacy setting? Did you load pictures from one computer and now trying to retrieve them from another?
If so maybe your account doesn't recognize that its you.
j. no I only have one computer.. I logged off and then logged in again no good.. I can access the photos, enlarge them, but when I move the arrow to copy, it goes away and won't let me copy the photo.. I have had some luck by trying Ctrl + C.. I get one copy in maybe 20 tries.. I may log off for a couple hours and see what develops.. It is something with the photobucket.. Others have had problems and gone to other sources, but it always worked fine for me until this problem..
Your golden looks like a real pal.. They are such loving dogs..
In the photo of the two in the snow, the one on the right was Peach.. She died suddenly Sept. 6th.. We sure miss her, but had to get another to keep Kate's spirits up.. She is the one climbing on the wagon.. Have a good one and thanks for the help..

OK, I have not posted a picture in a long time due to computer problems at home. Ready to post one, and find photobucket has gone crazy. Have not found an update on how to post pictures in 2018. Others are doing it, so I know it is possible, but I am not too computer literate. Help. miles

I have figured out the upload and post, and can get my photos to diaplay. But they rotate sideways (as above)
They appear normal on my computer, upload sideways and then post sideways.
Can I fix this? Or is it something to do with the original image?
Thanks

Can Somebody walk me through how to post pics with imgur ?
not sure what you did.......camera setting ?
set your camera to maxx pixal setting......cleaner photos
open your Imgur acct....right click your selected pic
copy image add [img] paste your pic here then [/img]
now you're confused ?
...fail x2
Your file has to end in .jpg or .gif or .pdf or some other image format.
The URL you are using is not the image file itself.
simple..........Imgur
I just tried my hand at posting photos from imgur. Followed Tikkanuts advice. The only thing I'd add is to open the photo itself in imgr, then copy it. If you try to copy it from the album, it only lets you copy the shortcut, and that didn't work for me.

Postimage is working for me
This link just takes you to a thread where renegade had attached the images. You've got to go one level further to get the image by itself.
If you 'right click' the picture and choose 'open image in new tab' (or similar depending on what browser you are using), it will open the image up all by itself and show it as a web address as below.
https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/gallery/80/medium/102208.jpgNotice how that ends in .jpg ?
put the [img]
https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/gallery/80/medium/102208.jpg[img] around it and it will post. For this line, i deleted the / in the last last img code so it would show what it should look like.
