Not many trees in our neighborhood, so these guys pause briefly and then head to other realms. Did do a short stop in one of our fruit trees though.

Took Cookie for a Mother's Day drive today. Went south and found a few of our local feral horses and some waterfowl.

Look to be slicked off and in fair shape given that they winter out with no help.

A relatively new foal. I think only a day or so as it was not especially sure footed in the rougher terrain.

and a few ducks.

Beautiful birds, the Evening grosbeaks !!!

They used to come to our winter feeder in flocks of 5 - 25 quite regularly. Haven't seen a single one in probably 35 years.

We have them all winter here along with a few rose breasted. The rose breasted are a pretty bird. They go through 2-300 lbs of black oil sunflower seeds a winter. Would like to feed them year round but feed tends to draw in skunks, coons and once even a coyote. Be ok but don't want the dogs getting bit which might mean a vet bill.

I haven't seen one of those in over 30 years. Haven't seen a rose-breasted, either. When I had feeders I saw them, but that was at a different house. Once I saw a flock of evening grosbeaks in a hemlock forest on the NJ/NY border. Only once. Thanks for sharing.
