If anyone is shooting the Berger 168s or similar in a 7mm WSM I would like to hear the details. Velocity, barrel length, load data, accuracy results.

I have been wanting light weight long range rig and I am pretty sure this is my caliber.
Not yet but will have one this spring..

180 bergers, 26" barrel, 2950-3000fps very accurate
162 Amax, 26" barrel, 3150-3190fps, very accurate

H4831SC, H1000, Retumbo, RL22 all work well.
curious here TMR but what's your load to run the 180 @ 3K?

and what twist are you running?

Thx

Boy... I sure hope my 7WSM will run that fast. That's WAY faster than anything I've seen published by the powder makers... so I'm not holding out hope, but it's always nice to see someone else getting speeds like that.

Mark- you building a 7WSM??
Thinking about it, though the 300 shorty barrel shoots fairly well so we'll see how the market treats me. way likey the idea of a 7 over a 30 though as 30's have alwayz kind of given me the yawns

Not a wsm but my 7mm saum gets 2808 f.p.s. with 63.5grs. of retumbo and 175 gr. sierras, not a max load.

Talked to Pac-Nor today while i was up shooting... waiting for barrels to cool a bit... They are 14 weeks out on rebarreling service, which is about right in terms of when I would like to have it back.

I hear you on the market thing. crazy I'm planning a couple moves in the ol' gunsafe, but I'm keeping a strong eye to keeping things cheap. I figure, for $600 I can bob the .338 to 23" per your suggestion, AND retube the Montana to 7WSM... so I kind of get 2 new rifles for $600 <grin>.

My new shooting spot was perfectomundo today. Virtually windless; nothing at ALL that I could see or feel but with my Sendero at 670 yards I was seeing about 3" of drift to the right based on bullet splashes on the target.

I was running the 180s at almost 3k using vv560 with a 25 inch barrel, but I was pushing it pretty hard, right around 65grs I think. I am pretty sure my 168gr VLD load is 66.6gr of vv560. It yeilded a velocity of 3080 fps and the ES was like 8.
I have been shooting the 162 ssts since last year but am going back to the 180s since I installed a wyatts box.

1-9 twist 26" Broughtons or 1-8.7 twist 26" Rocks. If I remember correctly its 63-64gr of H4831SC, jumping .050", runs 2950-3000fps. It runs this velocity in everyone of them I have built. I have a couple customers using H1000 with similar results. Reloader 22 with the 162 Amax's works really well.

Sounds like spin drift.
Hey TMR have you ran 7828 in any of your 7 short mags yet?

Thx

Mirage whether you can see it or not would probably explain a minor shift... sometimes its so minute its hard to see without a top end spotting scope....

Sounds like spin drift.

Spin drift should be repeatable and reliable... IE if you know your zero was X, and its not 3 inches off to the side, then its not spin drift IMHO. Spin drift would be factored into the original no wind zero.
There is an article I have saved somewhere if the web is up, on the mile accuracy record being held by 7 wsm.... should be data in that one too.

I haven't tried any 7828 yet. I had some issue's with that powder along time ago and never used it again. I might try some again.

I think you're completely correct here, also that mirage may have been the issue.

Gives teh 7wsm article I recalled...
Hmm. Pushing 180's close to 3000 in a 26" tube. Wonder what i will be able to get in my 32" barrel? To bad its close to christmas and work is hectic. Won't be till after the first of the year till i can do load work for it. Got 400 180's sitting on the shelf ready to be shot.

Man i knew i shouldn't have looked at this thread.

I'm running CCI 250's, 70.5g of H1000, and a 168 Berger to 3100 fps from a 25 inch #4 Hart in my 7WSM. It's delivering about 1/2 MOA out to almost 900 (farthest I've shot with it so far).
And all I want is some reliable data on 180s in my 7x300 wtby.... using 7stw to start... but Eric at Berger says go with 300 wtby data for 180s.... wth... its only 10 grains of powder difference between the two.... makes one wonder. And then... use a chrono.. but what is max anyway...

I run 168 berger at 2980 from a 1:9, 24" Broughton tube.
65.5 grains of I7828ssc over a 215M is my accuracy load.
I have run it faster, near 3100, but accuracy was not .5" or better...which is my personal goal for accuracy.
Max load of 7828 is @ 67 grains in my set up.

I loaded for a 7mm WSM over the summer.
Not mine.
Dober dude.
You need one of these things.
I ran 162g A-maxs over H4831sc with russian primers out of a old 722 action and a Douglas barrel.
Little, and I do mean little groups at 300 yards.
The I guy I loaded it for is usuing it right now for deer.
Im waiting for a hunt report.
