Here is a coues whitetail deer shot with a 7mm,180 grain orange-box Berger VLD. Deer was quartering towards. Bullet entered behind shoulder and exited opposite side at last rib. Lost backstraps on one side and half on the other. No meat lost in quarters. Exit hole in hide was about 3/4".

The 130gr bergers in my 270wsm and the 210gr bergers in my 300rum do the exact samething, must be a defect in them

Yea they really suck. 6 for 6 with them. They seem to work well for me. I just don't get why some people don't have any luck with them. They fail way to often. LOL.

I might get a chance to pop a cow elk this weekend at LR. I'm planning on taking my custom 257 Rob using 115 BT but the Ute tribal guide taking us out just called and he says with the lack of snow, the cows are staying high and are VERY spooky. One bunch started running when his truck was only 250 yds away and still moving. So, will take my BIG Surgeon in 6.5x47 pushing 130 VLD to 2850 incase I get a 500+ to 1000 yd shot.. Report to follow next week.

great bullets if you're shooting a 115 lbs deer and don't mind losing backstraps.

Not busting balls but that's a messy carcass. I like how my .358 treats the meat... but it'd be a lousy Cous rifle!

I keep meaning to try some of the 180s that are on my bench, but the 168 shoots so good we haven't gotten around to it. Actually using the bergers on game for me has me convinced. On about every berger thread, at least half the posters have never shot one.

Yes, it was messy if you open the abdominal cavity. I never do.

We shot a 500# bear with a 150 Berger in October and had the same results- dead booner bear. This was from a 270 WSM.

I haven't seen an elk shot with them yet but I am sure they will work.

What was the shot placement on the 500 lb bear - just through the ribs or through any shoulder/leg bones?

Through shoulder and into chest. Took the beast about 60 seconds to die and he made it into a cave. It was a long poke. I'm sure the 180 would have been a little better but the rifle wasn't done yet.

Nice buck Dennis, but it looks like it sure would have sucked if you poked him in the shoulder.

I've never placed a VLD in a game animal, but on a deer or lope I'd imagine there is probably more meat destruction than not in general.

The Berger blood trail pic made a good laugh.

Both the deer and the bear were killed by my buddy who is using Bergers for the first time this year. He killed the bear with his 270 WSM (Tikka) and then the little buck with his 7RUM.

We had horrible luck on CWT this year. Saw some pretty nice bucks but they either disappeared before we could stalk, got shot out from under us or in one case, the rangefinder wouldn't give us a range. The Leica got lost in the trailer and the Nikon wouldn't give us a range beyond 600. The deer was a little further so no cigar.

He shot this little 70" buck as a consolation prize. My son tried to stalk it and shoot it with his bow but it moved into the thick brush and was impossible to stalk. We found it on our way back to the truck and smoked him right from the trail.

This is the first animal I have seen killed by the 180 VLDs. This would seem overkill on a 100# deer until you consider that we wouldn't have a problem shooting to 1000 yds if the winds were favorable.

One of my buddies hunts them with a 300 RUM and 210 JLKs. Talk about 'enough gun'.

I was impressed by the blood trail, that's why I took the photo! I was really impressed! It was a poor shot to boot.
