I have a rem sendero in 7mm rem mag. It is the old series with blues barrell. I have shot both 140 and 150gr nosler ballistic tip with equal groups. It will shoot either load around .5". I have shoot a few group of each that is better than that. I plan on this being my long range deer gun. 500 or 600 being my longest shots. Do any of y'all have any experience with both or either to recommend which bullet to go with. The bc on the 140 is 485 and the 150 is 493. Any experience or advise would be appricated.
I have a ton load of experience with the 150 NBT (not much with the 140). I hear rumor that the 150 is built a bit stouter but it may just be rumor.

Not much in the world I wouldn't take on far or near with the 150 NBT.

I have shot the 150 in another 7rm but I was wondering how much better if any the 150 would handle a crosswind.

For the past several years those are the only 2 bullets I've hunted with in a 7 mag. The BC's are too close to make a difference. In my experince I think the 150's are a little tougher but I think 140's kill a little quicker on behind the shoulder shots. Basically flip a coin IMO.
Posted By: NMSSHOOTER Re: 7Mm rem mag. 140 or 150 - 09/07/12
That's about where I am. A flip of a coin. The point of impact is 1" different with horizontal being the same. I guess I could try both and see which one works better. What do you mean tougher. Hold together better? I prefer to shoot deer in the shoulder, would the 150 do better with this?
Posted By: overmax Re: 7Mm rem mag. 140 or 150 - 09/07/12
On shoulder shots they both pass thru, I think the 140's may do a little more internal damage and perhaps a better blood trail, but it's not much difference. I mean really not much difference.

I shoot 154 grain Hornady "bonded Blems" I got off midsouth. Have yet to kill something with em, but they are accurate and fly good. Plus they were cheap. I think the BC on them is .525 and we were busting rocks at over 500 yards with em with ease.

Enrique, I think those are their 154 Interbond offering.

The 154gr Interbond (bonded blem is a perfect description) worst accuracy bullet ever in several of my 7mm's (lot#04-022)
OP was interested in Nosler.....the 160 Accubond is IT at 531 BC

Leave it to good old rockchuck.

I use the 150 BT in my '87 ADL/FS 7 Rem Mag. Load is 63 grs of H4350 with the 150 BT exiting the muzzle at 3100. Not a fast load but very accurate in this rifle.

I was skeptical of penetration until in 2010 I shot a 140ish buck at 160 yards. He was quartering towards me at quite a severe angle but had shown signs of leaving the area twice in the previous few minutes so I took the shot. Hit him in the middle of the rib cage and that bullet exited about 8" ahead of the tail taking a 4" chunk of spine with it. About 3 feet of penetration. You can see the exit behind the grass just ahead of the tail.

Rockchucker I couldn't get the 168 Berger to shoot. Wonder how the heavier 160 ab would shoot. The higher bc would defiantly help with the longer shot. I hope to try and stretch it out in practice soon. 5 or 6 is as far as I intended to shoot deer.

Rembo I shoot rl 22 in the 140 gr at 68gr. 3100 is about all I can get out of it and remain accurate. I load IMr 4350 in the 150. Have not chrono them yet but I don't figure they are doin 3100. I seem to have trouble making book max speed out of any of my guns.

I also shoot Rel22 under the 140 TSX in this rifle. 70 grs gets me 3300. Some barrels are faster than others.

Rembo,I took the same shot on the same size buck in Montana a few yrs. ago with 160 TSX @ 3000 FPS.I killed the buck but he ran about 100 yds. where I found him bedded with his head up, sick, but very much alive.

Since switched to 160 Accubonds with quicker kills.I know many love the TSX but the deer I shot with them acted almost like they were shot with a bow.

Never a problem with the 150 ballistic tip either.

The 154's shoot very well in my rifle, but to each their own. That's why all guns are different.

As far as the 150nbt go, I did have a client a few years ago when I was still guiding, that drilled a mule deer buck on the Kaibab at 425 yards. The deer dropped like a sack of bricks. Shot went off and the buck dropped.
If I remeber correctly, he was using 7828 behind the 150s.

140 and 150 kill the same in my experience. Some rifles will perfer one over the other.
Posted By: NMSSHOOTER Re: 7Mm rem mag. 140 or 150 - 09/07/12
I may have to try the 160 Ab. I don't know if it was the bergers or the heavier bullet but my sendero didn't like it. The best I could get was 1-1 1/4" groups.

Huntnfish- I shot barns in a 270 wsm last year and it wouldn't knock a deer down. They all ran 75 to 150 yards with no blood trail. I did shoot one at 60 yards downhill that went through both shoulders and came out neck, it fell. That's the Only one that fell

NMSSHOOTER,try 70.0 RL-25 with the 160 Accubond for starters.Several rifles seem to like it and you will right around 3000 fps.Seems to do a little better than IMR-7828.Maybe the TSX's we shot did not open up quickly? The accuracy was great I'll say that.

I like the 140BT or AB for a midwest farm where my longest shot could be about 500ish yds.

Wouldn't hesitate to use the 150 on elks...
139 Gr. bullets have been my standard for deer for over 35 years now. No no one makes a premium 139 gr bullet.
Uh, Hornady does. wink

Yeah I'll prolly stick to the nbt. But next year I may try the 160 ab to hunt with. I also would like to try the 140 Berger. Any experience with them

I shoot 140 AB over h1000
My pal shoots both 150's and 140's out of his 4 or 5 7mm Mag.s I have never heard him say much about either one..I think it depends on which is most accurate in a given rifle...In our old 7mm mag. we have been shooting 140's for about 20 years..It became my late wife's favorite rifle the last years she hunted because it shot so flat and kicked very little..She used the 140 BTBT to kill a nice moose about 10 years ago..One shot behind the shoulder and the moose crashed on the spot..We used a max load of Re 22..Her last antelope was just over 325 yards, and she dropped it on the spot with one round...The 140's have been great for us..I remember it taking: whitetails, mulies, antelope, elk, moose, axis deer, caribou and coyotes with this load..I would shift to an Accubond or Partition if I were using it on elk or moose now..but for lighter game, the 140's have been excellent..

my son and i have shot a few truck loads of deer and a few elk with the 140nbt and the older solid base nosler

Guess I'll have to decide if I want the extra speed or weight. Guess that's the classic question.
Posted By: BobinNH Re: 7Mm rem mag. 140 or 150 - 09/10/12
I've mostly used the 140 and 160 gr bullets in various forms, skipping over the 150 for no particularly good reason.Started at 3200 fps + the 140 Partition has been a bomb and very nasty killer for me,also accounting for what I think is the longest shot I've made on anything.

Recently and within the last couple of years I have been shooting both the 150 BT and the 150 NPT from the same rifle, both started at about 3120.I have to get to 600 yards before there is a meaningful difference in POI and even there it is small.

I'm lazy and like to shoot everything with one bullet so these days I'd grab either the 150 Partition or BT. I doubt any animal would know the difference between these and 140's .

I've shot the 139gr Hornady Interbond in my 7STW(3450fps mv) and 7mag(3200fps mv) through both shoulders on deer.I have yet to recover one and all deer quickly died.I've used a lot of Interbonds in various rifles. Some rifles shoot them really well and some seem to be more picky about seating depth. The bullet in the center is a 139gr Interbond.

baldhunter: I need to try those Interbonds.I could not get them to shoot in one 270 but maygive them another run in 7mm.

People seem to say good things about them on game. Thanks for the pics.

I shoot the sst interlock in my wife 7-08 and in both my 280s. I have had great success with them but my sendero seems to like the nbt better. I have shoot deer with nbt and. Urdu shoot with sst with. O noticeable difference in performance.

R#25 loves winchester magnum primers vs the fed 215 in several 7 Mags that I load for(browning a bolts and 700's). The load with the one hundred fifty four hornady Flat base is seventy three grains of twenty five with a Win Mag primer with thrity two fifty fps, which is not slouch load, with one half inch groups in Rem brass. If you try this load, work up to it starting off at sixty nine grains go up from there.
Posted By: Arac Re: 7Mm rem mag. 140 or 150 - 09/15/12
Keith - it is funny you mentioned the primers because I was stubbornly stuck on Federal 215M in my 7mm RM for the longest time. I recently tried Remington 9 1/2 primers and I was very pleased with the results.
Posted By: keith Re: 7Mm rem mag. 140 or 150 - 09/22/12
I am getting sub half inch groups with the Win mag primers vs an inch with the 215's...deer would not know the difference.

This is interesting to me. I have tried the Cci primer and have some rem primers loaded with IMr 4350 but have not had a chance to shoot them yet. Been averaging .5-.75 with most loads. My sendero don't seem to mind whatever you put in it. It has amazed me with the ability to shoot almost anything
