25-06 using Remington brass, wlr primers, 50.0 grains of IMR4350 to launch an 85 gr Nosler at about 3400 fps.

3X9 z600 Ziess scope.

Target is 700 yards west and the ten to fifteen MPH wind is from most directions.Very switchy especially 'way up the canyon where the target is.

Factory rifle. Only mod was to back off on the trigger a little.

Wind at target, according to my iPhone wind meter app.

The range.
Shooting at the red target to the left.

Another look at the range.

Three shots @ 700. Not bad for an old goat with 100% factory rifle.

That'll do, nice shooting!

I betcha' have a lot of gas left under those 85s too... I used 52gr under 100 NBTs.

Good shootin'! What's the velocity of the 85 grainers at the target?

I use 55.5 grains of H4831under a 100 gr TTSX, makes bug holes

Correct. I had loaded some quite a bit hotter than that but decided to back off a notch.

I'm gonna try some 100 grainers soon and they clock a little faster than my 85s.

According to JBM, about 1550.

I used the same components and charge under a 115 grain BT in my mid range rifle so I would say you have plenty of room left.

Nice!

Have been using the .25-06 as my primary mule deer & coyote rifle for a few years now. Just a factory Rem 700 CDL with a 6x scope. It does real well, particularly with 115's.

Go for it! You're doing well at the range.

Good shooting. I love it when I find a factory rifle that will shoot. But everytime I do I cannot help but think it will shoot even better with a custom tube and start "working" on them wink

Nice.....I've got a soft spot for the 25-06.

Try some Berger 115 VLD's and H-4831.

I ran that combo in a 26" Sendero at 3200 and set a stock class 1K range record of 4.xx" in Ia.

I found H-4350 was perfect for the 85 and 100's, but needed the 4831 for the heavies.

EddyBo, I fudged on this one and started out with a model 52 Cooper. Haven't figured out anything I can do to improve the rifle so I'll work on me and my loads. whistle

Aalf, sounds like you have done and probably still do some real quality shooting with your 25-06. I will step up my loads a little to see if my groups shrink some but I play the game with lots of caution. I remember back to when I had to beat the bolt open on my old Swedish 94, 6.5X55 two times. I didn't realize at the time what I was doing wrong but after my gunsmith friend told me, I backed way off and tend to follow that same rule of caution even today. That incident happened back in 1961 and I sure am glad that I still have all my fingers today. smile

I will sneak up on your recipe and post how it works for me in a few days.

Thanks to ya'll.

I actually sold the gun, thinking it's replacement was going to be the Holy Grail. You can imagine how that turned out...... cry

Also, my speeds were in a 26" tube, not sure what the Coop's got.

Bigbuck,

Nice to see you "fess up" here! This way I won't have to do it for you!

Yeah that is indeed some very fine shooting right there! That is obviously a fine rifle and load but the nut behind the butt is doin some mighty fine work as well!

That is my charge w/ 100 gr Interlocks at 3250 fps in my 257 AI. You've got TONS of space before needing to hammer open your bolt!

Nice work!
Nice shooting... A .25-06 is one of my three, favorites.. Haven't been shooting it off an on since just before it became a factory round..enjoy..

Here's today's shooting, same range, no breeze at all and solid cloudy so light was a little on the dim side. Same recipe but using 115 Bergers. I think I'm just gonna hang Cooper on the wall and quit while I'm ahead.

aalf, I'll try not to make the same kind of mistake you did. Thanks for the warning. whistle

I was pretty sure that my shooting mentor, Ten Sleep, would out me on what breed of factory rifle and sure enough....

efw, the nut behind the stock is getting looser but still lucky once in a while.

WyoCoyoteHunter, I too have had a 25-06 of some breed or another since it became a factory round and in fact, still have Jack O'Connor's first write up on it. Great round.

Notice how well this group fits with the one from Thursday.

Very nice indeed !

Thanks, BobT

My friend Ten Sleep is going to try it out on some real live animals this fall so we can get a report from him at that time.

That Cooper is definitely a keeper.

Bigbuck215 that's a great shooting rifle -and some fine marksmanship by you.
My 25-06 rem. 700 bdl shoots the 85gr NBT better than any other bullet .

Straight from the Lee manual -85gr bullet -58gr of H4831 -I use 4831ssc.
Shot several groups around .6 -.7 " at 218yds -that's beyond great to me for a factory barreled sporter weight rifle.
Wacked a coyote at 488yds -my longest coyote shot so far.

Mike, looks like you and your 25-06 make a pretty good team!I load the 85 Nosler with 51.5 of IMR 4350 and on a good day, that will do two inches or a little less at three hundred. I feel pretty good with the 85s at 700, turning in that six incher.

I sure enjoy my two Coopers.
