Just bought a box of hornady 154 grain sst superformance ammo to hold me over til I get the funds to buy more reloading components so I can roll my own.. the gun im shooting is a remington 700 sendero 7mm rem mag. I have yet to shoot the gun with these bullets. My question for you guys is, has anyone had any luck shooting them out to around 4-600? I dont plan on ever joinin the 1000+ club anytime soon, but these sst's look like they should have potential with their respectable bc(.525)..obviously I have to see if my gun will shoot them, but if they perform well I plan to buy either more 154 sst or 162 sst(or amax if they are in stock) to work up a good load. My main animalwill be western ny whitetail in the farm fields where 3-400 is practical ranges at times, and for now until I get more longer range practice about where I limit myself to. Sorry for being long winded, but I am very eager to hear any experiences with these bullets. Thanks in advance and god bless

I handload over 60 cartridges, but I have the most faith in myself killing something at long range with the 7mm Rem Mag. I have a lot of other rifles I am deadly out to 400 yards, but I have a number of 7mmRem Mag rifles that get it done at 500 yards. I have had very good accuracy with 162 SST, but no experience with 154 SST. There are guys who are a lot better than me and guys who are a lot worse, but for me a 7mmRM rifle that weighs 10 pounds with scope, bipod, sling, and ammo will shoot best with 140 gr. The 120 gr are ok, the 150 and 162 gr are ok, but the 140 is the best for me to get out to 500 yards.

Thanks for the info.. This is my first 7mm that ive owned.. Shot a few deer with one tho.. My plan since i really dont see myself shooting much over 5-600 tops was to stay in the 150+\- range.. If the sst dont shoot the 150 nbt was my next choice..if i were to regularly shoot elk or other bigger game i might change up my game plan but i know that wont be an option anytime soon, and i have other rifles icould use if it came to that.. I figure a quality 150ish grain bullet with a decent bc will be capable long after my skills taper off

I set my buddies 7RM up with 154bonded blems from midsouth. They are interbonds that were mistakenly added cannulares(sp) to.
With his rifle set up and the reloads, his rifle is shooting those 154's at a modest 3026FPS. They have taken coues deer over 500 yards and a couple over 600 yards with no problem.
I was shooting regular factory hornady 154sst's in my old 7RM. Was Consistently hitting my target out to 638 yards. Never had the chance to try em on game tho.

Sounds like in theory they should do well out my my rifle..I have pretty high hopes they will perform well to on my mid range shots..I may consider a more streamlined bullet if I were to shoot out to1000, but 4-600 yards it should work well

154g SST, very effective bullet, jam the lands, same with the 162g SST.

Just FYI navyman20,
IME the SST bullets are very accurate for hunting type bullets and should shoot well at the ranges you described, but be advised that they tend to be a very soft, fast expanding bullet which can cause a lot meat damage.
At longer ranges this should be less of a problem due to lower impact velocity but up closer they can be ugly.
I don't use them any more after trying them in several different calibers with the same issues.
I would personally go with the 150gr Nosler BT in that type of bullet ; it is a much tougher bullet that still expands well and is just as, if not more accurate.
Just my take on it...................
Good luck whatever you decide,

The 150 nbt is the other bullet I want to try if the sst doesnt perform well..id like to use the 162 amax but gettim my hands on them right now is the problem..the 162 sst has my attention as well
