I don't think I'm looking into what most would consider long range hunting. I hunt a property in NE Louisiana that is mostly reforested hardwoods. It is flat with long, strait roads. When the deer hit these roads, they don't hang around long. They usually cross, with little time for ranging and adjusting turrets, etc. I do use a sandbag rest and can get steady.
My setup is a WBY 300 Accumark with a Nikon Monarch 4-16 scope. I've made some shots at 300+, but would like to increase my range to 500 yards. What would be the best two or three things I could do to be consistant at 500 yards?

If I brought my 300 Wby out of retirement for that purpose here's what I'd do. Settle on a load/trajectory. Mount an SWFA 6x or 10x with a milquad reticle. Prerange a number of spots so when the deer appears I already have a handle on the range. Hold on the correct reticle mark and squeeze the trigger.

Well, that's too far for a MPBR zero, so you'll need to compensate for drop somehow. If speed is of the essence and 500 is the limit, a reticle works really well in my experience. What I'd do is, range a number of objects up the lane you are watching in hopes that you can skip the ranging step. Flags would be even better. But for me personally, 500 is not a quick shot regardless... I wouldn't go into this expecting quick 500-yarders, myself.

Somewhere out there in the 400,500 yard range is where you'll really start to see a benefit from higher-BC bullets as well. Without getting TOO esoteric, the 200-gn Accubond would be a good one. If you end up wanting to go further you'll find yourself sliding down a slippery slope...

Keep the Accumark and run 155 Scenars as fast as you accurately can and have Leupold put dots in a 3.5-10x40 to match your 400 and 500 yard drops with 0-300 being no problem if you're zero 'd at 250/275

TDN's about right by my thinking. I would zero at 300. This will give you 330 or so with a center hold. I would have dots set for 3 1/2X.

155 scenars and would know the mil drops on a 6x ss. For a fast shot location would just hold the correct hash mark for the distance and rip it.

That's my thought. With the 7mm Mashburn and 162Amax at 3200,the load follows the dots in a 6x36 LR reticle, from a 300 yard zero,at 400 and 500. The tip of the bottom post brings me to 600. I'm sure there are loads for the 300 Weatherby that could do the same things.

I would not be surprised if the 6X SS with MQ reticle proves superior. Mine is new to me,and still working with it. So far. so good.

a12, Years ago when I had a bighorn permit, I was faced with a similar problem.. The shots could be close or long, but in those days, range finders were not common.. So I loaded 150 Nosler BTBT's at 3400+fps.. In my old .300.. You should get 3500fps out of a good Weatherby.. Sighted in 3" high at 100, I was a tad less than 2 foot low at 500.. It was pretty simple, out to a shade over 400, hold high on the shoulder, at 500, I needed some daylight.. Worked like a charm..

I also have scopes with dots, that is an excellent way to go if, you want to go beyond 500..

I say learn how to shoot your current set-up. Not a damn thing wrong with your scope... Now the rifle, that's a different story..

1 -- a good rangefinder;

2 -- turret install, or sell it and get a Chicken!

Both of which come way after lots of practice!

With a Skinner at 3500fps and a 300yd zero(+2.1" at 100yds),500yds is a "whopping" 1 Mil correction in height(18.5"). Hint.
