So, has anybody shot these yet? Particularly the heavy .30 cal options, like the 200 and 212gr and on game performance. Haven't even seen a box yet down here in Australia but have been told they are on the way here. Eager to try them in my new Accumark .300 Win.

On another note, anybody heard anything about the AMAX being discontinued? OR has hornady just suspended production for the time being?

The 200 grain ELD-X shoots extremely well in my 300 Win Mag...the bullet so far seems easy to load for !

Where you guys finding them in stock yet? I'm looking for the 162's.

178 too

I got a box of the 212's the other day. They look like they have a pretty long ogive and might not work in some situations where mag box length is limited. Might explain why the 220 has a lower BC. It was probably made to be more mag box friendly.

I just got some 143 6.5s from Midway today. Apon inspection the plastic tips are crooked. They wobble like a SOB when I role them across a flat surface. I don't see any sense loading these as the BC will be phugged and no way there going to be accurate for how far I want to shoot.

I'll call hornady and Midway in the AM and see if I can get something done about the bullets I received.

I've read elsewhere that the 220s were made to be mag-feed friendly, so you are probably correct. Crap, thats not good to hear about the tips being crooked. Hopefully Midway/Hornady sort that out for you. It's just getting a bit frustrating waiting for these things to become available in Australia.

Guess all I can do is hurry up and wait.

I'll let everyone know the verdict on this box of 6.5s ELXs I received. Just getting ready to call Midway, they may vary well handle the entire things.

Bullets with the crooked tips are now on the way back to Midway. I asked the gal who answered the phone if it would be possible to have one of there reputable hunters open the next box and please check the tips as I really don't want to be sending stuff back and forth waisting there money and my time. The gal said she can't guarantee that. Really! I guess I'll just take the refund then as I feel it's more than likely my box of bent tips is not the only box to have escaped quality control. I've spent $1550 at Midway in the last 3 months I'd of thought they would have taken a more personal interest in making sure I don't get another box of bent tipped bullets.

I don't have an issue with problems that can and will happen. I do however take issue with the same problem being repeated when it is brought to ones attention. I'll most likely give Midway one more call and if I get the wrong answer a second time I will likely be spending a good amount of change somewhere else this year.

Dear Mr Larry Potter, you'll not receive another dime from me as long as I live. You have turned into another example of big business with impersonal, don't really give a schit customer service. Have a nice day.

Headed to town to see if Sportsman Warehouse has some of these bullets.

An interesting update. I called Hornady and spoke with Tim. I'm sending the bullets directly to hornady and Tim will ensure the problem is solved and is making a personal call to Midway. I'm very impressed with Hornady customer service. Tim is looking immediately into the lot # of the bullets I received and quite frankly seemed a little pissed that Midway took such a non concern about the issue. After all it's hornady's reputation on the line.

I'll continue to use hornady bullets but as I stated before I certainly won't be useing Midway to get them or anything else for that matter.

A big thank you to hornady and Tech/Tim for excellent customer service.

I said FU to Midway too. After they jerked us around with "free" shipping, and their prices have been higher than other places I checked.

Larry can tongue punch my fart box as far as I'm concerned.

I loaded a handful of 200 gr ELD's in my 300 WSM today. Won't get to the range until next week. I've seen lots of the 200's on shelves, but no other 30 cal options as of yet.
Posted By: Hammerdown Re: Hornady ELD-X - 02/18/16
I bought some .30 caliber 178 grain at Sportsman's Warehouse, and some 200 grain ELD-X from Midway-USA

I Haven't shot any yet.

Midway is off my buy list !!! Their service is the worst.

I have no issues with Midway, probably averaged over a grand a year the last decade.

I received a 100 nickel 7-08 brass around 2000 that was horribly inconsistent and half would not fit in the shellholder. I didn't bitch at Midway, I called Federal and explained the issue, they sent me 200 total and said I could cull or just toss the first batch.

Sometimes it pays in excess being smart.

This is a manufacturers issue to resolve not the vendors ! a few years back I got a new sealed 50 pc bag of Rem 300 RUM brass that did not have the extractor groove fully cut out and was completely useless, I emailed Rem and they replaced the cost of the bag of brass and all my shipping fees via a certified bank check ......

just recently I got a box of Barnes 8mm 160 gr TTSX bullets that have bad tips that are loose and wobble when rolled on a flat surface but why would I bitch at Midway ?

they didn't make them !!!!!

the bullets are either going to Barnes for replacement or I will pull the tips and make them TSX's but certainly not gonna piss and moan about it like a vegan

Finally my 4 boxes of 162gr ELD-X bullets showed up. Will load some up tonight and have em at the range tomorrow.

no on game tests yet but just shot the 212's at water jugs a couple days ago, posted video here.....

212 gr ELD-X vs water jugs
Posted By: JMR40 Re: Hornady ELD-X - 03/05/16
The 200's I loaded in my 300 WSM got 2800 fps with decent accuracy. Three shots at 100 yards measured 1.17", at 200 yards 2.06". Call it 1 MOA.

Somewhere there is a link here where someone tested them in a 300 WBY at about 3000 fps. With impact speeds that fast they really came apart, but at 2700 fps performed as well as any other conventional bullet.

143 gr ELD-X are what I'm planning to use in a 6.5mm project I'm working on. It'll be a while before I get the rifle together. I'm hoping to see some reviews of how they actually kill stuff before then. I know they're new and haven't been used much yet. I'm just keeping my eye on internet discussions involving these bullets.

My uncle gave me a box of the 212's for my 300 win since he figured out his 300 win. He tested the 200s and got a group that was about 1/2 inch. Then he got a box of the 178s and the group shrank even more. They seem to be really easy to get to shoot well. He tried the 19 ABLR and they didnt group as well for him even after working different powders and seating depths. The ELD-X seem to be quick and painless.

The 143's shoot very well in my creedmoor.
Posted By: ryanjay11 Re: Hornady ELD-X - 03/13/16
I did some load testing with my new 300 WSM, using the 200s. 3 shot groups at 100 measured from .23 - .7 MOA. I'm going do some more load development and move back to 600 next time.

Very small sample size, but I'm impressed so far.

I ended up acquiring some 200s and tried them in my Accumark .300 WM. Tried the Australian equivalent of H1000 and had nothing but dramas trying to achieve accuracy. Best I could manage was just over 1 MOA at 100 meters (110 yards).

Switched to RL22 and presto. Bad groups hover at 1 inch. My chosen load consistently prints between .4-.6 MOA. Going to skim bed the ally bedding block and see if things improve. Seated 20" off the lands.
Posted By: ryanjay11 Re: Hornady ELD-X - 03/15/16
You might consider seating them 19.98" closer to the lands to see what happens....
